COX Process Engineer - Visual Inspection

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize visual inspection (VI) and AOI processes for pump laser diodes
• Optimize and maintain laser and components inspection criteria, including cosmetic, optical, and mechanical defect standards
• Analyze inspection data to identify defect trends impacting optical performance, reliability, and yield
• Establish and manage defect libraries specific to pump laser diode
• Collaborate with Process, Product, Equipment, Quality and Supply Chain engineering teams to drive root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Develop roadmap and implementation plan for reduction of visual defects in an agressive timeframe
• Support failure analysis by correlating inspection findings with optical, electrical and mechanical test results
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce invalid failures, escapees, and inspection cycle time
• Support NPI, qualification, and process transfers for pump laser diode
• Train operators and inspectors on laser inspection standards, defect recognition, and AOI operation
• Program and tune AOI systems to detect defects related die bonding, wire bonding, thermal cycling, contamination, etc
• Support internal and customer audits related to laser inspection and quality processes
• Collaborate with equipment team to determine needs to further improve visual inspection and AOI processes
  
  

Education & Experience

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, Optical, or related field)
• 3–5 years of experience in process engineering focused on visual inspection or Automatic Optical Inspection
  
  

Skills

• Knows how to operate multiple types of microscopes or Automatic Optical Inspection equipment
• Knowledge of optical defects (scratches, chips-out, contamination, crack, misalignment, etc) and potential root causes
• Experience with image processing, lighting, optics, and camera calibration
• Possess data analysis skills, can set-up SPC, and defect trend analysis
• Demonstrated skills on finding root cause using analysis tools (5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA)
• High attention to detail and strong quality mindset, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Effective communication across cross-functional teams or stakeholder management
• Experience with laser diode inspection is a big plus
• Knowledge of ESD, contamination control, and cleanroom practices

• This role is 100% onsite working in a cleanroom and office environment.
