Summary/Objective
We are looking for a detail-oriented, skilled individual who is passionate about leveraging their skills as a land surveyor, BIM technology, and familiarity with field layout tasks to drive project success and foster collaborative, efficient construction practices.
Essential Functions
- Provide project teams layout points generated from surveyor control points
- Use GPS and Robotic equipment for civil construction layout activities, including curbs, sidewalks, light pole bases, and similar site work Provide elevation for foundation systems, stem walls, curb and gutter, dirt grades, etc.
- Data point collection of new systems in place or existing site conditions
- Operate an optical level to establish elevations, sidewalk grades, and pipe slope elevations
- Coordination with surveyors
- Coordination with Architectural and Engineering teams to get the necessary information for layout
- Modeling as required by BIM – Navisworks/Revit/AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Drafting/Detailing – Revit/AutoCAD/Bluebeam
- Communicate with project superintendents, project engineers, or project managers.
- Ability to travel frequently and remain eligible to operate a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for company purposes per Fleet Safety Management policy
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in land surveying, civil construction or related construction work
- Minimum one year of experience in general construction
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work rapidly and accurately with plans and computers, follow set procedures and standards as well as compare and recognize differences in size, shape and form of lines, figures, and objects
- Ability to picture objects from drawings or diagrams, rate information using standards that can be measured or checked, perform quantity takeoffs, compile pricing, and work within precise limits or standards of accuracy

Work Environment
The Assistant Layout Superintendent works in a dynamic, field-driven construction environment that blends outdoor jobsite activities with office-based coordination and digital modeling. This role requires frequent presence on active construction sites, where the individual uses GPS, robotic total stations, and optical leveling equipment to perform precise layout and verification tasks for civil and structural elements. At the same time, the position involves significant collaboration with project superintendents, engineers, architects, and surveyors, often requiring the use of BIM platforms such as Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD Civil 3D to interpret and generate layout data. The work environment is fast-paced and detail-oriented, demanding strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and the ability to maintain accuracy under pressure. Regular travel between job sites is common, and the role requires balancing hands-on fieldwork with technical drafting, data management, and communication responsibilities to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and within established quality and budget standards.

The Assistant Layout Superintendent role requires the ability to perform a range of physical activities in both outdoor construction environments and indoor office settings. The position involves frequent standing, walking, and traversing uneven or rough terrain on active job sites, as well as the ability to climb ladders, work at varying heights, and navigate around heavy equipment and ongoing construction operations. The individual must be capable of lifting and carrying surveying equipment, tools, and materials (often weighing up to 50 pounds) and performing repetitive motions such as bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Visual acuity is essential for reading construction drawings, operating precision instruments, and identifying layout points with a high degree of accuracy. The role may also require extended periods of screen time for drafting and modeling tasks. Additionally, the position demands the ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation, while maintaining focus, safety awareness, and productivity throughout the workday.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time non-union position. The scheduled hours are 40 to 50 hours per week Monday through Friday but may be extended as required to execute the tasks assigned.
Travel
This position requires frequent travel. The Assistant Layout Superintendent routinely travels to and from the office, job sites/projects, meetings, supplier/sub-contractor locations, etc.
Required Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field; at least three years of experience in land surveying, civil construction, or related construction fields; and a minimum of one year of hands-on experience in general construction.

- Must pass a pre-employment screen, including but not limited to a drug and alcohol screen, background check, motor vehicle records check, reference check and physical (if applicable).
- Current and valid driver’s license in the state of permanent residence (must be insurable by Jaynes automobile insurance carrier in order to drive a Jaynes vehicle).
- Must be eligible per Fleet Safety Management policy to operate a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for company purposes.
