Job Description
As a Bookkeeper, you’ll play a vital role in managing financial operations for an impactful environmental organization operating across US and European markets. This position offers unique exposure to international non-profit finance, combining the precision of US federal grant management with the opportunity to grow into European funding frameworks. Responsibilities
Manage QuickBooks accounting system for US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit
Process and record monthly income from government, philanthropic, and corporate donors
Handle international payroll for staff across multiple countries
Manage credit card reconciliations and automatic payment processing
Prepare monthly financial reports for board meetings
Track shared costs and overhead allocations per donor requirements
Support compliance with US federal grant rules and reporting requirements
Assist with financial operations across US and Netherlands legal entities
Provide data for AI-based financial analysis tools
Generate financial runway and payroll analytics
Scope
Managing financial transactions for approximately 6 staff members plus consultants
Processing 3-4 major donor payments monthly
Handling regular credit card transactions and subscriptions
Supporting operations across two legal entities (US and Netherlands)
Coordinating with grant management staff in UK
Initial focus on US compliance with opportunity to learn European requirements
Requirements
3-5 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably with exposure to non-profit sector
Strong proficiency in QuickBooks and comfort with financial management software
Understanding of US non-profit accounting principles and federal grant requirements
Experience with international payments and multi-currency transactions
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong English communication abilities for effective team collaboration
Ability to work UK hours (9 AM - 1 PM UK time) consistently
Self-motivated with ability to work independently while maintaining team coordination
Willingness to learn and adapt to new accounting frameworks, particularly European requirements
Experience with or interest in the environmental/conservation sector is a plus
