Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly skilled Trauma Counselor / Employee Wellness Therapist to provide counseling and emotional support services to employees who have experienced crises, traumatic events, workplace stress, and secondary trauma.


The ideal candidate will have a strong background in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and counseling services. They will play a critical role in supporting employee well-being by helping individuals process difficult experiences, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and improve their overall mental and emotional resilience.


Job Highlights

Schedule: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Torrance, CA Time (8 hours per day plus a 1-hour unpaid break)

Work Arrangement: Work from home

Contract: Independent Contractor


Responsibilities

Counseling & Mental Health Support

  • Provide individual counseling sessions to employees experiencing personal or work-related challenges
  • Support employees affected by crisis situations, traumatic events, grief, loss, and emotional distress
  • Deliver trauma-informed counseling services tailored to individual needs
  • Assist employees in developing healthy coping strategies and resilience-building techniques


Crisis Intervention

  • Conduct crisis assessments and provide immediate emotional support when necessary
  • Support employees dealing with secondary trauma, compassion fatigue, burnout, and workplace stress
  • Identify situations requiring additional intervention or referral to specialized mental health services


Wellness & Prevention

  • Promote employee well-being and mental health awareness
  • Provide guidance on stress management, emotional regulation, and self-care practices
  • Assist in developing wellness initiatives and support programs when needed


Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and professional session documentation
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable ethical, legal, and privacy requirements
  • Follow established professional standards and counseling best practices


Collaboration & Consultation

  • Collaborate with organizational leadership when appropriate while maintaining employee confidentiality
  • Provide general recommendations regarding employee wellness initiatives and support programs
  • Assist in identifying trends and opportunities to improve overall employee well-being


Requirements

  • Licensed Psychologist, Counselor, Therapist, Social Worker, or equivalent mental health professional credential in their jurisdiction
  • Minimum 3 years of experience providing counseling or therapy services
  • Experience working with trauma, grief, crisis intervention, or secondary trauma
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles
  • Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse individuals
  • Strong ethical judgment and commitment to confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and manage sensitive situations professionally


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting remote employees or distributed teams
  • Experience in Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), workplace wellness, or occupational mental health
  • Certification or specialized training in trauma therapy, crisis intervention, PTSD treatment, or grief counseling
  • Experience supporting healthcare workers, social service professionals, customer service teams, or high-stress work environments
  • Multilingual capabilities are a plus
