Job Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to ensure excellence in quality and delivery across our application-level products. In this role, you will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications that serve thousands of students.

You May Contribute To Products Such As

  • Athena: AI-powered video and test generation producing quantifiable learning gains
  • TeachTap: AI-driven platform that animates historical figures within a TikTok-style educational interface
  • TeachTales: Customized storytelling experiences designed to enhance reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning platform that makes education enjoyable and interactive

This position blends hands-on technical work with leadership: you will spend 50% of your time building sophisticated features and 50% mentoring and empowering your team. You define quality expectations, create architectural patterns, conduct code reviews with an educational approach, and foster engineer development. You own team results, not merely individual contributions.

Small teams, substantial ownership, minimal process overhead. Your focus is technical leadership; people management is handled separately.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Developing sophisticated features that serve as reference implementations for your team
  • Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, educational commentary
  • Mentoring engineers through pair programming and targeted feedback
  • Orchestrating technical initiatives and decomposing requirements
  • Defining quality benchmarks and verifying team adherence

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Handling personnel management (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career planning)
  • Developing platform-level infrastructure components
  • Attending excessive meetings
  • Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Basic Requirements

Technical Team Lead key responsibilities

  • At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
  • Track record of shipping SaaS products
  • Experience with AI tools in development workflow
  • Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow
