The Tax Preparer plays a vital role in supporting the firm’s tax operations by managing the administrative and compliance-related aspects of tax return extensions and related filings. This role ensures timely, accurate processing of federal, state, and local extensions while maintaining clear communication with clients and internal teams. It is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with experience in a CPA or tax-focused environment who thrives in a fast-paced setting.


Job Highlights

Number of Paid Hours Per Week: Full-time

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM Pacific Time (Los Angeles, CA), with a 1-hour unpaid break

Work Arrangement: Work from home

Contract: Independent Contractor

Side Note: Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and the arrangement is that of an “Independent Contractor,” the selected candidates must have their own computer and internet connection. They will handle their own benefits and taxes. The professional fees are on hourly rates and the rate depends on your performance in the application process.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax return extensions for individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and estate clients
  • Track and monitor extension deadlines to ensure timely submissions across all applicable jurisdictions
  • Communicate with clients and internal teams to gather required information for extension preparation
  • Maintain and update tax management systems, tracking logs, and workflow tools
  • Coordinate with tax preparers and managers to ensure documentation and tax payments meet compliance requirements
  • Assist with processing tax payments and verifying electronic filing acknowledgments
  • Maintain accurate records and support e-filing, document management, and correspondence handling during peak seasons
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with firm policies and IRS regulations


Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using Intuit ProConnect (required)
  • At least 2 years of experience in tax administration, tax processing, or tax support within a CPA firm or tax department
  • Strong understanding of tax filing deadlines, extension procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Proficiency in tax software and workflow management systems
  • High level of professionalism when handling sensitive and confidential client information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
