Senior Backend Engineer Java - Freelance

About The Position

Pentaleap is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Java) (Freelance) working remotely in the Philippines starting immediately. You need to be able to offer your services as a freelancer in the Philippines. Availability for regular overlap with Berlin, Germany business hours for meetings/collaboration is required.

Your Responsibilities

• You will design and implement new features and enhancements to our platform that require hard real-time constraints and elegant, yet powerful software solutions.
• You will work closely with other engineers and our Product teams, to not only make these systems go faster and handle more and more data, but also to build innovative features for our clients.
• You will prioritize bug fixes to ensure critical up-time.
• You will work collaboratively with other engineering teams to ensure real-time technology integrates seamlessly with other pieces of the platform.
  
  

Your profile

• You are experienced in Java with excellent and creative problem-solving abilities.
• You have practical experience with several of the following technologies: Spring, Postgres, Docker, Kubernetes, CI tools.
• You have experience building high performance, multi-threaded, distributed applications.
• You have experience with real-time data processing engines and low latency systems is preferred.
• You have excellent Computer Science fundamentals with regards to data structures, algorithms, time complexity, etc.
• You are an engaged, self-motivated person with ability to work efficiently, both independently and in a team and have strong communication skills.

Applicants must be registered with the Philippine Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) as freelancers and possess a valid Tax Identification Number (TIN). Contractors are responsible for complying with all applicable tax laws, including filing and remitting their own taxes, including income tax and self-employment taxes, as required by the BIR.

This position is offered strictly as an independent contractor engagement. There is no employer-employee relationship between Pentaleap and the contractor. The scope, schedule, and method of work will be managed by the contractor, subject to agreed deliverables. A written freelance services agreement consistent with Philippine laws, including the Freelance Workers Protection Act (House Bill 6718), will govern the terms of engagement. The role offers flexibility in work hours; expected project milestones and deliverables will be discussed in advance. All compensation and incentives are contractual and not employment benefits. As an independent contractor, you are not entitled to statutory benefits such as SSS, PhilHealth, or Pag-IBIG contributions from the company. You are responsible for your own government registrations and contributions.

Pentaleap recognizes the rights of freelancers under Philippine law, including the right to timely and just compensation, safe working conditions, and freedom from any form of discrimination. Contractors may raise concerns regarding contract or payment issues through the mechanisms provided in the engagement agreement.

Handling of data will be in compliance with Philippine Data Privacy Act, detailed in the contract.
