Senior Accountant AU NZ

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support a growing multi-entity business operating across Australia and New Zealand.

This is a critical role within the organization, requiring a candidate with strong technical accounting expertise, a high level of ownership, and the ability to manage complex financial processes across multiple entities. The ideal candidate brings proven experience in Australian accounting standards, compliance, and end-to-end financial management.

This position is initially offered as a 3-month project-based engagement, with the potential for extension or conversion to a permanent role depending on performance and business needs.

Important Scope of Role (Multi-Entity Complexity):

This role has a high level of complexity and responsibility across four separate business entities:

• 2 entities based in Australia
• 2 entities based in New Zealand

One of these entities is significantly larger and more operationally complex than the other three, requiring careful financial consolidation, prioritization, and strong attention to detail.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and reconciling financial data across all four entities, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance across jurisdictions.

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Sydney, Australia) (aligned with AU business hours), 38 hours per week

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Control

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit & loss and balance sheet reports across all entities
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances
• Process month-end journals, including recurring and complex entries requiring analysis

Intercompany Accounting

• Manage intercompany transactions across all four entities
• Ensure all intercompany balances are reconciled and payments are accurately allocated

Inventory & Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)

• Reconcile inventory across warehouses, 3PL providers, and POS systems
• Monitor and analyze cost of goods sold and stock movements

Fixed Assets

• Maintain fixed asset registers across entities
• Calculate and post depreciation entries

Omni-channel Revenue Accounting

• Reconcile daily sales across multiple channels including Retail (POS), E-commerce (Shopify), and Wholesale invoicing

Compliance & Tax

• Prepare and lodge BAS (GST) returns for Australian entities
• Support NZ compliance requirements where applicable
• Manage PAYG withholding obligations
• Assist with payroll tax and fringe benefits tax (FBT) requirements

Cash Flow & Working Capital

• Monitor operating expenses across entities
• Manage accounts payable and supplier payments
• Support cash flow forecasting, particularly for seasonal inventory cycles

Requirements:

• Proven experience in Australian accounting (BAS, GST, PAYG)
• Strong understanding of multi-entity accounting and intercompany transactions
• Experience managing financials across multiple entities or group structures
• Strong background in inventory and COGS reconciliation
• Proficiency in Xero, MYOB, or similar accounting systems
• Experience with Shopify, POS systems, or 3PL platforms is highly desirable
• High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
• Ability to manage complexity and work independently with multiple stakeholders
