Overview

We are seeking a reliable and detail-driven Bookkeeper/Accountant to manage the day-to-day financial operations of a property management company. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate general ledgers, reconciling trust accounts, and producing comprehensive financial reports across multiple properties.

Responsibilities

Bookkeeping and Accounting

  • Maintain accurate general ledger records
  • Record and categorize all financial transactions
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Process owner disbursements and vendor payments
  • Track rent payments and management fees
  • Handle security deposits and trust account entries

Reconciliation

  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Reconcile trust and escrow accounts
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies quickly
  • Maintain clean audit trails

Property Management Financials

  • Track income and expenses by property
  • Allocate shared expenses correctly
  • Prepare owner statements
  • Monitor reserve balances and operating accounts
  • Support budgeting and cash flow tracking

Reporting

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports
  • Generate profit and loss statements by property and portfolio
  • Produce balance sheets and cash flow reports
  • Assist with year-end reporting and tax preparation support

Compliance and Controls

  • Follow internal accounting controls and procedures
  • Maintain organized financial documentation
  • Support audits and compliance reviews
  • Ensure proper handling of trust funds


Requirements

Experience in Appfolio is required.

  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper or accountant
  • Experience with property management accounting
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or similar
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills
  • High accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong reconciliation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and entities


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with property management software accounting modules
  • Trust accounting experience
  • Real estate or property management background
  • Experience preparing owner statements
  • Familiarity with 1099 preparation
  • CPA or accounting certification is a plus but not required




Side note: Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and an “Independent Contractor” arrangement, the candidates must have their own computer and internet connection. They will handle their own benefits and taxes. The professional pay rate is based on hourly rates and the rate depends on your performance in the application process.
