About The Opportunity

The Payroll Specialist II is responsible for processing payroll and benefits for Japan-based clients within the APAC region. This role ensures accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with Japanese payroll regulations while providing bilingual support in both English and Japanese.

What You’ll Get To Do

  • Review client payroll advice for completeness, clarify discrepancies, and upload data into the system for processing.
  • Validate payroll reports against payroll advice and client checklists before submission for client verification.
  • Respond to client and employee queries within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Process statutory claims in compliance with Japanese labor laws and tax regulations.
  • Participate in annual year-end tax reporting, including generating required tax forms and resolving related inquiries.
  • Maintain proper filing and documentation of payroll advice, reports, and correspondence for Japan-based clients.
  • Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for assigned clients.
  • Provide monthly MIS reporting data and support Finance with headcount information for accurate billing.

Skills And Experience We Value

  • 2–3 years of experience in payroll outsourcing, preferably supporting Japan or other APAC countries.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Japanese and English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Strong understanding of payroll components, calculations, and compliance with Japanese labor and tax regulations.
  • Knowledge of accounting and taxation related to salary income.
  • Strong analytical and logical thinking skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service orientation and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English.

  • Experience supporting multi-country APAC payroll environments.
  • Prior exposure to payroll systems within a SaaS or outsourced payroll model.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve payroll processes or documentation standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in resolving payroll discrepancies.
  • Experience working within a global, matrixed organization.
