Location: Fully Remote, Philippines
Rate: $6 - $10 per hour based on experience

Job Description
As an Ophthalmic Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for chart review and coding for a busy retina specialty practice. You will do CPT and ICD-10 code validation, modifier review, documentation quality, clean-claim submission, denial prevention, and compliance with current payer and regulatory guidance.
Requirements
Strong ophthalmology coding experience, including retina charts or highly comparable subspecialty charts.
Must be familiar with CPT, ICD-10, modifiers, NCCI edits, medical necessity, payer policies, and documentation requirements.
Must be able to assess whether physician documentation supports billed services,
Strong attention to detail and professional communication skills.
Comfort giving direct, practical feedback to physicians and administrative leadership is required.
Preferences
CPC or ophthalmology-specific coding credential is preferred.
Experience with retina practices, ophthalmology groups, or specialty surgical settings.
Familiarity with DrChrono or similar ophthalmology EMR systems.
Prior experience with denials, downcodes, appeals, and payer audit requests.
Medicare ophthalmology billing experience.
Knowledge of retina injection workflows, diagnostic testing documentation, and drug billing.
Responsibilities
Review completed ophthalmology and retina charts for coding accuracy
Assign or validate CPT and ICD-10 codes; confirm correct modifier use including laterality and bilateral modifiers
Review procedure documentation to confirm it supports billing
Identify missing, incomplete, or inconsistent documentation before claim submission
Review coding for intravitreal injections, OCT/OCTA, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, office visits, laser procedures, surgical retina procedures, and drug billing/J-codes
Confirm diagnosis-to-procedure linkage and medical necessity support
Review coding-related denials and downcodes to identify root causes
Recommend corrected coding, documentation improvements, or appeal strategy as needed
Provide concise feedback to physicians and leadership on documentation gaps, recurring coding risks, and payer-specific issues
Support compliant coding per current CPT, ICD-10, CMS, NCCI, LCD/NCD, and payer guidance

Successful candidates for this role will be rewarded with the following benefits:
A total of five paid vacation days per year (additional days can be taken unpaid).
A 5% raise per year guaranteed (additional raises or bonuses may be given for outstanding performance).
A paid 15-minute break for every 4 hours of work.
Healthcare benefits after 2 months of full-time work.
Vacation days increase by 1 vacation day per year. I.e. after one year of employment, the total paid vacation days on year 2 would be six, on year 3 seven, etc.
