Overview

The Mental Health Intake Specialist plays a vital role in onboarding patients into mental health services by gathering essential information, assessing immediate needs, and coordinating care. This role requires a compassionate, detail-oriented professional who ensures accuracy, confidentiality, and a supportive patient experience throughout the intake process.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and interview new patients and families, build rapport, and provide initial support and guidance.
  • Collect detailed mental health histories, personal backgrounds, current symptoms, and patient goals for care.
  • Screen for urgent needs, assess immediate risks, and determine the appropriate level of care or intervention.
  • Schedule appointments with therapists or clinicians, coordinate care, and make internal or external referrals as needed.
  • Manage new patient records, perform data entry, and ensure all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Maintain confidential, accurate patient files in accordance with privacy regulations and organizational standards.
  • Provide initial crisis intervention and support when necessary, ensuring patient safety and proper escalation.


Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with patients and families sensitively.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and data management abilities.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues, assessment protocols, and crisis intervention preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinicians and administrative teams.
  • Professionalism, empathy, and discretion in handling confidential patient information.

Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and an “Independent Contractor” arrangement, the candidates must have their own computer and internet connection. They will handle their own benefits and taxes. The professional pay rate is based on hourly rates and the rate depends on your performance in the application process.
