Head of Finance

Client Overview

We are a high growth fintech operating in non bank SME lending, with a core product set in merchant cash advance and short term, high velocity facilities with daily and weekly repayments. We are seeking a hands on Head of Finance to own the finance function end to end and build the financial backbone of the business as we scale.

Job Overview

This role is not a passive reporting position. You will be responsible for the accuracy, cadence, and integrity of our financial data, loan book reporting, and cash flow management, and you will be a key partner to the leadership team and board as we grow the business and expand our funding capacity.

Side note: Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and an “Independent Contractor” arrangement, the candidates must have their own computer and internet connection. Key Responsibilities

Loan book finance operations and controls

• Own daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation across bank accounts, payment rails, and the live receivables portfolio.
• Maintain accurate loan book accounting, including allocations, write offs, recoveries, and arrears treatment.
• Ensure clean mapping between operational systems and the general ledger so portfolio reporting ties out every day.

Cash flow, treasury, and forecasting

• Build and maintain a rolling cash flow forecast that reflects daily and weekly repayment cycles.
• Manage liquidity planning and capital allocation to support origination targets and collections variability.
• Support funding strategy through accurate reporting, forecasting, and performance transparency.

Reporting and insight

• Produce weekly performance reporting, including origination, portfolio performance, arrears, recoveries, net yield, and unit economics.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and board packs with clear commentary and actionable insights.
• Build KPI dashboards relevant to MCA and short duration lending, not generic finance reporting.

Governance, process, and systems

• Implement scalable processes, controls, and month end close discipline suitable for a regulated, high growth lender.
• Own the finance tech stack, including Xero and any supporting tools, and drive continuous improvement and automation.
• Liaise with external accountants, auditors, legal advisors, and service providers as required.
• Team and stakeholder management
• Lead and develop the finance function as the business grows, including outsourcing where needed.
• Work closely with operations, credit, collections, and leadership to ensure data integrity across the full lifecycle of a facility.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a senior finance lead in fintech, non bank lending, private credit, or merchant cash advance. Merchant cash advance experience is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated track record managing a live loan book with high transaction volume and frequent repayments.
• Strong treasury and cash flow forecasting capability in a lending context.
• Deep systems and controls mindset. Comfortable building the function, not just maintaining it.
• Board reporting experience, including presenting insights and explaining portfolio performance drivers.
• Strong commercial judgement and ability to operate in a fast paced, founder led environment.
• Xero experience is helpful, but the core requirement is lending finance operations and loan book mastery.
