Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee and optimize the financial operations of three rock climbing gym locations.


You will lead budgeting, expense management, and tax-related activities while improving the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. The role involves close collaboration with the CEO, location managers, a fractional bookkeeping service, and a local tax accountant.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with QuickBooks Online, tax accounting, multi-location financial management, and excellent communication skills. Knowledge of Canadian tax requirements is a strong advantage.


Job Highlights


Hourly Rate: The equivalent of $10.00 USD per hour in the applicant’s local currency

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week), Flexible during clients business hours (10am to 5pm MST)

Work Arrangement: Work from home

Contract: Independent Contractor


Side Note: Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and the arrangement is that of an “Independent Contractor,” the selected candidates must have their own computer and internet connection. They will handle their own benefits and taxes. The professional fees are on hourly rates and the rate depends on your performance in the application process.


Responsibilities

  • Manage daily bookkeeping operations in QuickBooks Online for three business locations
  • Interface with location managers via Slack to ensure proper transaction allocation to correct accounts
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations across all locations
  • Transfer journal entries from Rock Gym Pro (point of sale system) to QuickBooks
  • Provide regular financial updates with improved accuracy and timeliness
  • Handle budgeting and expense management across multiple locations
  • Perform tax accounting functions and potentially file tax returns
  • Reduce the CEOs involvement in day-to-day financial management tasks


Requirements

  • Strong experience with QuickBooks Online
  • Proficiency with Slack for team communication
  • Experience working with point of sale systems and journal entry transfers
  • Background in controller or senior accounting roles
  • Experience with tax accounting and return preparation
  • Ability to work with Canadian businesses and understand Canadian tax requirements is highly beneficial
  • Strong communication skills for interfacing with multiple location managers
  • Experience managing financial operations for multi-location businesses preferred
