Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Commercial Roofing Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial roofing projects. The role involves interpreting plans and specifications, performing takeoffs, collaborating with sales and operations teams, and ensuring profitable bid submissions across various roofing systems.

Job Highlights

Hourly Rate: The equivalent of $6.00 USD per hour in the applicant’s local currency

Number of Paid Hours Per Week: 40 hours

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM EST

Responsibilities

Estimating & Takeoffs

• Perform detailed roof takeoffs using plans, specifications, site visits, aerial measurements, and digital tools
• Prepare comprehensive material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates
• Develop bid pricing for new construction, re-roof, roof replacement, and maintenance projects
• Analyze drawings, specifications, and scope documents to identify project requirements and risks

Vendor & Cost Management

• Solicit and evaluate pricing from manufacturers, suppliers, and subcontractors
• Maintain current pricing databases for materials, labor rates, and assemblies
• Compare vendor proposals and recommend best-value options
• Track historical job costs and incorporate lessons learned into future estimates

Pre-Construction Support

• Participate virtually in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and project handoffs
• Clarify scope, exclusions, assumptions, and alternates in proposals
• Assist operations with estimating support during project planning and execution
• Support value-engineering and cost-saving initiatives where applicable

Documentation & Communication

• Prepare clear, professional bid proposals and scope summaries using JobNimbus
• Maintain organized estimating files and documentation
• Communicate effectively with sales, project managers, and leadership
• Ensure estimates align with company standards and profitability targets

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in commercial roofing estimating (or related construction estimating)
• Strong knowledge of commercial roofing systems (TPO, PVC, modified bitumen, ISO design, shingles, tile, metal, coatings, etc.)
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Proficiency with estimating software and takeoff tools (e.g., RoofSnap, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Earth, JobNimbus)
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and math skills
• Excellent time management and organizational abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience estimating large commercial, industrial, HOA, or institutional projects
• Knowledge of manufacturer specifications and assemblies
• Familiarity with local building codes and permitting requirements
• Experience working with project managers during handoff and execution

Side Note

Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and the arrangement is that of an Independent Contractor, the selected candidates must have their own computer and internet connection. They will handle their own benefits and taxes. The professional fees are on hourly rates, and the rate depends on your performance in the application process.
