About the Company

Our client is a renowned leader in Australia’s solar energy sector, delivering innovative commercial and residential solutions. With over 10,000 successful projects and multiple industry awards, they continue to set the standard for excellence in solar and battery installations.

They are looking for a Commercial Project Accountant to join their offshore team. This full-time role, reporting to both the Senior Accountant and the Head of PMO, is primarily responsible for supporting the PMO team in maintaining accurate, up-to-date financial information across all commercial projects and ensuring the integrity of project-level data.

This role provides critical support bridging Finance and PMO functions and aligns with their strategy to strengthen governance and control frameworks across commercial project reporting.


Key Responsibilities


Project Lifecycle Management:

  • Oversee the financial setup and tracking of EPC contracts from inception to commissioning.
  • Monitor project actuals against budgets, identifying variances and investigating discrepancies.
  • Manage the "Work in Progress" (WIP) accounting and ensure accurate revenue recognition based on project milestones or percentage of completion.


Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare detailed monthly project performance reports for Project Managers and Executive Leadership.
  • Work with project managers in developing project-level and divisional-level cashflow forecasting.
  • Conduct deep-dive margin analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Manage project cash flow forecasting, ensuring the business anticipates capital requirements for large-scale equipment procurement.


Commercial Support:

  • Partner with Project Managers to review subcontractor claims and ensure alignment with physical progress on-site.
  • Assist in the commercial evaluation of variations, extensions of time (EOT), and liquidated damages.
  • Provide financial input for tenders and help refine cost-estimation models for future large-scale bids.


Required Skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience in construction accounting (including familiarity with WIP accounting) or a related role, preferably within the Australian market.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Xero accounting software and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds within the company, as well as with a variety of external stakeholders.
  • Passion for identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance financial operations and reporting accuracy.
  • Capable of working autonomously, managing time effectively, and making informed decisions with confidence under minimal supervision.


Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is highly preferred.
  • Experience with ApprovalMax or similar accounting workflow software.
  • Experience in the solar industry or related fields is an advantage.


Additional Information:

  • Full-time position, 38 hours per week, typically from 8 AM - 4 PM AEST (GMT+10), Monday - Friday. Flexibility in hours is offered.

  • Rate Range: $9.00 - $11.00 USD per hour
