Role Overview

You will provide expert-level bookkeeping support to clean up financial records, reorganize accounting systems, and establish efficient accounts payable processes using QuickBooks Online.

The client is a professional services firm assisting a mid-sized company with restructuring its accounting department for improved functionality.


Schedule

  • The specific schedule to be determined with the client (e.g., Monday-Friday 9:00 AM-1:00 PM Eastern time, or flexible arrangement within clients business hours) - (20 hours per week).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a comprehensive QuickBooks Online cleanup, including chart of accounts restructuring and historical transaction reconciliation
  • Organize and streamline accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate vendor payment management
  • Review and correct bookkeeping errors from previous periods to ensure data integrity and compliance
  • Collaborate with the clients controller and accounting team to establish standardized accounting procedures and workflows
  • Generate reports and documentation detailing cleanup activities, corrections made, and recommendations for ongoing maintenance
  • Provide subject matter expertise on QuickBooks Online best practices and system optimization
  • Support the implementation of improved financial record-keeping systems and internal controls
  • Prepare daily or weekly progress reports summarizing work completed and identifying outstanding issues
  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial information and client data at all times


Requirements

Technical & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on bookkeeping experience with demonstrated expertise in financial cleanup projects
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online, including chart of accounts design, reconciliation, and system configuration
  • Proven track record of successfully cleaning up disorganized or problematic accounting records
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes, vendor management, and payment processing workflows
  • Experience working with clients in organizational restructuring or accounting department turnaround situations
  • Ability to identify and correct bookkeeping errors across multiple accounting periods
  • Familiarity with standard accounting principles and best practices for small to mid-sized businesses


Behavioral & Situational:

  • Ability to independently assess complex accounting situations and determine appropriate corrective actions without constant supervision
  • Capacity to clearly document cleanup findings and communicate technical accounting issues to non-accounting stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work systematically through large volumes of disorganized financial data while maintaining accuracy
  • Willingness to ask clarifying questions when encountering ambiguous transactions or unfamiliar business processes
  • Capability to provide constructive recommendations for process improvements based on issues discovered during cleanup work
  • Flexibility to adjust working schedule within agreed-upon hours to accommodate client communication needs
  • Reliability in meeting deadlines and providing consistent progress updates via the BruntWork platform

  • This is a permanent work-from-home role under an Independent Contractor arrangement. Candidates must have their own computer and reliable internet connection, and are responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
