The Head – Environment, Vedanta will develop strategies by benchmarking with global standards & ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and work towards Vedanta’s vision of sustainable development & “Zero Harm, Zero Waste, and Zero Discharge”.


The Opportunity

  1. The candidate should lead the delivery of the environmental strategy and policies by designing and implementing comprehensive initiatives, in support of overall HSE strategy.
  2. Track and monitor environmental legislations, compliances, ensuring best practices and regularly review risks and opportunities facing the businesses.
  3. Develop competency across the Group in topics related to statutory requirements, biodiversity, waste, water/energy utilization, tailings, etc.
  4. Undertake impact assessments to evaluate the implications of new environmental legislation, identify environmental risks, and recommend management plans, and KPIs.
  5. Benchmark the Group’s performance with peers and facilitate the setting Group level environmental targets.
  6. Regularly evaluate and update the performance to Group Ex-Co & Sustainability Committee.
  7. Drive process improvements and ensure timely external disclosures related to SR, DJSI, CDP, TNFD etc relevant to our sector with aim to be a leader in ESG Space.
  8. Digitalization of MIS, system, and process across Vedanta.
  9. Make decisions related to the formulation and documentation of environmental policy, standards, strategy, and vision at the Group level. Handle clearances for expansion projects and advocacy as needed.
  10. Drive improvements to the governance of the environmental function across the group, include enhancing audit protocols and ways to improve implementation of environmental requirements.


Desired Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering/ Post Graduation in environmental science/ Management
  • Overall experience of 15+ years in environment & sustainability domain
  • Exposure to global best practices in natural resources sector (across Oil & Gas and Metal & Mining) or in large manufacturing setup
  • Strong background of Operational Excellence, HSE commitment, Global Benchmarking, Technology & Digitalization
  • Knowledge of environmental legislations & pollution prevention tools & techniques are required.
