Amazon MGM Studios is the original movies and television development and production arm of Amazon. It is our role to produce original content for Amazon’s Prime Video customers.

We are looking for a Business Affairs Executive to add to our original film and television group. This role will also support our services across all scripted and unscripted deals in Japan. The role will be based in Tokyo and report to the Head of Business Affairs, Japan.

A comprehensive working knowledge of international film and television industry business models, development and production methodologies is critical in this role. Further, significant experience negotiating original content development (e.g., original scripts, book options, underlying rights, overalls, etc.) and production matters (e.g., actor, writer, director, producer, production company agreements, etc.) is necessary to achieve success.

This candidate should also understand what is relevant to the market and what isnt, and be able to come up with creative solutions to problems that commonly arise when blending traditional studio work with a global streaming service.

Key job responsibilities

This business affairs executive must be able to manage a varied, high-volume workload efficiently and smoothly, operate within corporate parameters, and remain cool and levelheaded in pressurized situations. A successful candidate is expected to be able to work collaboratively with colleagues in this department and across various functions within the studio, build strong internal and external client relationships, effectively advise senior-level executives under time-sensitive conditions and generate client satisfaction through clear thinking and risk analysis.

About The Team

The Business Affairs team represents the commercial negotiating arm of Amazon MGM Studios, and is comprised of thinkers that enjoy the challenge of finding creative solutions in an evolving VOD marketplace. We are the Amazon representatives that interact directly with third party studios and talent, and are focused on translating market expectations and Amazons global vision. We structure, negotiate and close deals that make commercial and strategic sense.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of entertainment industry deal negotiation experience
• Experience in negotiating complex agreements with an understanding of legal terminology and reasoning
• Can communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
• Speak, write, and read fluently in English
• Speak, write, and read fluently in Japanese
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a content acquisition or business development department of a media company
• Experience working for a production company, studio, or television network
• Bachelors degree
• Understanding of the fundamentals of Japanese Copyright law and its application
