India Design Manager Lead Engineer

We are Sisco Jobs, a recruitment consultancy based in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. We are hiring on behalf of our client for the position of India Design Manager / Lead Engineer in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Our client is seeking a highly experienced engineering professional to lead an India-based multidisciplinary design team delivering high-voltage transmission and grid-infrastructure engineering for UK programmes. The position owns design integration, technical governance, quality, programme interfaces, and the issue of coordinated and independently checked engineering deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and manage project design plans, deliverables schedules, resource plans, responsibility matrices, and design assurance strategies.
  
• Lead multidisciplinary teams covering primary electrical, protection/control/SCADA, cable systems, civil/structural, and BIM/digital disciplines.
  
• Coordinate engineering activities across concept design, detailed design, and construction-support stages.
  
• Chair design reviews, technical risk reviews, interface meetings, and constructability reviews while maintaining actions, assumptions, constraints, and decision records.
  
• Ensure engineering designs are safe, buildable, maintainable, and compliant with applicable UK requirements and IEC/BS/ENA standards.
  
• Control design inputs and outputs including calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, models, schedules, technical queries, deviations, and changes.
  
• Define checking and approval routes and ensure appropriate independent technical reviews are completed before deliverables are issued.
  
• Manage interfaces with UK stakeholders, suppliers, and construction/site teams while coaching engineers and developing repeatable engineering processes.
  

Required Skills

1. HV Substation & Transmission Engineering: Strong technical understanding of 400/220/132/33 kV environments.
   
2. Multidisciplinary Design Integration: Ability to coordinate electrical, protection/control/SCADA, cable, civil/structural, and BIM/digital engineering.
   
3. Design Assurance: Experience establishing checking, independent review, approval, and technical assurance processes.
   
4. Technical Governance: Ability to control engineering inputs, outputs, technical risks, queries, deviations, interfaces, and changes.
   
5. Engineering Leadership: Capability to lead discipline engineers, assess competency, support recruitment, and develop engineering processes.
   

Preferred Skills

• Experience delivering engineering for UK grid-infrastructure programmes.
  
• Strong exposure to constructability reviews and construction-support engineering.
  
• Experience supporting tenders, work-package definition, effort estimation, and lessons-learned processes.
  

Work Experience Requirements

Candidates must have 15+ years of relevant professional experience, including substantial hands-on responsibility for multidisciplinary engineering deliverables. Experience must include high-voltage power, transmission, substations, utilities, or directly comparable critical infrastructure, with senior responsibility for design coordination, assurance, and technical governance.

Education

• Minimum: Typical — Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  
• Preferred: Typical — Postgraduate engineering qualification or relevant professional engineering credential.
  
• Additional: Typical — Chartered/professional engineering status or relevant power-system/design-management certification would be advantageous.
