Job Description

Accountable to the Pilots Lead/Mentor Pilot and Harbour Masters in achieving a thorough knowledge  of the Key Accountabilities of a licensed pilot after the approved training period and through whatever  courses and training schedule is expected of him, i.e. 

Marine Operations: How to; 

  • Act as the Port Authorities representative and ensure that all pilotage is carried out with due regard and act as a liaison officer between the Port Authority and the Ships Master while on board. 
  • Assist in the control of port traffic by advising vessels where to enter the channel and when and where to expect the pilot to board while monitoring efficient operations of radio and electronic equipment to communicate directly with ships or other maritime stations to ensure smooth traffic flow.  
  • Assist with ofall arrangements for vessels arriving, anchoring, berthing, unberthing, shifting ship and departing while ensuring timely completion of relevant pilotage documentation and accurate provision of information for charging.  
  • Conduct timely observation of all port operations, requesting dispatch of tugs, mooring boats and mooring crew.
  • Ensure timely provision of advice during inclement weather to Ships Masters of suitable anchorage positions and suitable berthing arrangements in line with safety standards and Port Regulations. 
  • Conduct accurate allocation of berths to vessels in line with defined guidelines.
  • Initiate an Emergency Response and provide support during emergencies and maritime rescue operations to assure optimum protection of all resources.

  • Participate  in  the  implementation  of  all  relevant  departmental  policies,  processes,  standard

procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner. 

 


Quality, Health, Safety, & Environment  

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant quality, health, safety and environmental procedures, instructions and controls so that the safety of employees, quality of products/services and environmental compliance can be guaranteed. 

 

Statements and Reports 

  • Prepare sectional statements and reports timely and accurately to meet SIP Group and department requirements, policies and standards. 

 



Requirements


Minimum Qualification 

  • Certificate of Competency Class 2 (management level) with STCW95, required for Chief mate position, which includes; ARPA, GMDSS, BRM, etc.  
  • Physically fit to carry out his duties in a 24/7 roster. (Pass the MOTC approved Seafarer Medical Exam) 

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills 

  • Customer service orientation. 
  • Analytical skills. 
  •  Good judgment, organizational and communication skills. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Experience of navigation, marine law, seamanship, marine safety, stability, ship handling …etc. §        
  • Leadership skills 
  • Problem solving skills
