Software Engineer COBOL

About The Role

We are looking for candidates passionate about software engineering and various programming languages, especially COBOL, and who stay up-to-date with the latest developments in technology. The ideal candidate will contribute to analyze, refactor, and migrate legacy COBOL codebases to modern platforms, evaluating and improving code generated by Large Language Models (LLMs), with a strong focus on legacy systems and enterprise programming languages.

Responsibilities

• Staying updated on developments in COBOL, legacy system modernization, and enterprise programming ecosystems.
• Following secure development, testing, and deployment best practices to maintain system security and compliance standards.
• Reviewing code generated by Large Language Models (LLMs), with a primary focus on COBOL, to identify errors, inconsistencies, and logical issues.
• Evaluating and validating business logic, especially in legacy and enterprise application contexts.
• Ensuring quality evaluations by adhering to established guidelines and quality standards.
• Providing structured feedback and suggestions to improve LLM outputs, particularly for COBOL and enterprise-level code.
• Reporting issues or challenges encountered during the evaluation process to team leads.
• Assisting in the development of new features and capabilities for the platform serving LLMs.
  
  

• B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science (or related field) with strong programming fundamentals and problem-solving skills.
• Strong knowledge in Writing and understanding structured COBOL programs with 2+ years of experience.
• Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals (Data Structures, Algorithms, OOP concepts, Operating Systems basics).
• Preferred to have knowledge of JavaScript and/or Python.
• Good to have experience with web frameworks such as Node.js, React, or Angular.
• Good to have knowledge of additional programming languages (preferred: Java and Golang).
• Understanding of legacy system integration and modernization practices is a plus.
• Attention to detail with the ability to identify logical, syntactical, and contextual errors in code and documentation.
• Familiarity with language annotation tools or evaluation platforms is a plus.
• Ability to work in cross-functional teams within defined timelines.
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
