If youre looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering

In this role, you will:

  •     Design and implement production-grade multi-step agent workflows, including planner and executor patterns and multi-agent coordination.
  •     Build secure tool-calling integration layers so agents can diagnose incidents and execute controlled remediation actions.
  •     Implement RAG pipelines that ground agent decisions with topology, runbooks, incident history, and change context.
  •     Define and maintain prompt templates, structured output contracts, and evaluation harnesses for regression-safe releases.
  •     Integrate LLM models based on latency, cost, and risk constraints, and optimise inference behaviour for operational use.
  •     Implement AI safety controls including approval gates, least privilege access, deterministic guardrails, and blast radius limits.
  •     Integrate agent workflows with observability platforms, ITSM tools, and CI/CD pipelines for end-to-end AIOps execution.
  •     Build complete auditability for all agent decisions, tool calls, approvals, actions, and rollback outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  •     10+ years of overall experience with strong software engineering depth and at least 2+ years building production LLM or agent systems.
  •     Hands-on experience with agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph or equivalent implementations.
  •     Strong Python engineering capability and practical experience with API-first system integration patterns.
  •     Solid experience in RAG architecture including embeddings, vector stores, retrieval patterns, and contextual grounding.
  •     Proven capability implementing output validation, hallucination controls, confidence scoring, and safe fallback mechanisms.
  •     Experience building quality evaluation frameworks with benchmarks, regression tests, and production performance monitoring.
  •     Practical understanding of incident lifecycle, ITSM, runbooks, change management, and CI/CD safety controls.
  •     Demonstrated experience delivering auditable and risk-controlled automation for high-impact production environments.

You’ll achieve more when you join HSBC.
