Job Title:Lead Software Engineer (Vertex)

About The Role

As a Lead Software Engineer (Vertex), you will play a critical role in shaping and executing the technical roadmap for tax and finance platforms at Williams-Sonoma Inc. This role requires deep expertise in Oracle ERP Cloud Financials and Vertex tax solutions, combined with strong architectural leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

You will partner closely with business, finance, and technology teams to deliver scalable, compliant, and high-performing tax and financial solutions that support multiple markets and legal entities globally.

Key Responsibilities

Architectural Stewardship

• Contribute to the creation and refinement of the technical roadmap for Vertex and Oracle domains.
• Influence key architectural and technology stack decisions.
  
  
  

Technical Due Diligence

• Identify technical debt and proactively plan for its reduction.
• Evaluate new tools, frameworks, and third-party services for security, scalability, and ecosystem fit.
  
  
  

Innovation & R&D

• Explore emerging Oracle Cloud and Vertex capabilities.
• Conduct proof of concepts (POCs) and recommend innovations for adoption.
  
  
  

Consensus Building & Solutioning

• Facilitate discussions across diverse technical teams.
• Drive consensus and identify pragmatic compromises for enterprise-wide solutions.
  
  
  

Implementation & Configuration

• Work with business teams to understand financial and tax requirements.
• Configure and customize Oracle Financial modules and Vertex tax solutions for multiple legal entities.
• Integrate Vertex with ERP systems for Sales and Use Tax.
  
  
  

Testing, Training & Documentation

• Perform thorough testing to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Provide training and ongoing support to business users.
• Maintain configuration, user, and troubleshooting documentation.
  
  
  

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience implementing Vertex tax solutions for Sales and Use Tax.
• 10+ years of experience with Oracle ERP Cloud Financials (GL, AP, AR, FA, Projects).
• Experience with Certificate Exemption processes in Vertex O.
• Strong understanding of global tax laws and compliance.
• Experience leading cross-domain and cross-functional teams.
  
  
  

Technical / Solution Experience

• PL/SQL Packages, Oracle EBS Applications
• Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS), BIP Reports
• Oracle Workflow, SOA, Forms, Reports, XML Publisher (11i)
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
