Work Design

Job Role – ETL Tester

Roles and Responsibility -

• Test and validate Python scripts used for data processing, transformation, and validation.
• Document test results, issues, and quality metrics, and communicate testing status and risks to the team and stakeholders.
• Identify, log, prioritize, and track defects through the defect management lifecycle; work closely with development teams to ensure timely resolution.
• Test ETL processes and data pipelines to ensure accurate data ingestion, transformation, and loading across systems.
• Must adhere to client QA Standards and Validate data lineage, business rules, and controls implemented as part of Data Governance frameworks.
• Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive test cases, test scenarios, and test data aligned with functional, data quality, and governance requirements.
• Able to work independently - self starter
• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies including PI Planning, Sprint Planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Must be able to analyze requirements for ambiguities.
• Must be able to develop test scenarios and test cases that cover all acceptance criteria, positive and negative test conditions
• Re-test fixes and perform regression testing to confirm defect resolution and prevent reoccurrence.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Support automation efforts where applicable, including identifying opportunities to automate data and ETL testing.
• Ensure testing deliverables meet Agile Definition of Done and quality standards.
• Conduct code reviews and ensure code quality.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, tools, and best practices within the product team.

Top Skills

• Must have experience testing ETLs.
• Must have experience in ETL and Data integration tools like Informatica.
• Must have experience in testing Python scripts.
• Experience with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL
• Must possess strong skills in SQL
• Must be able to develop complex queries in order to validate.
• Must be familiar with all types of joins and aggregate functions.
• Hands on experience running ETL jobs and processes is required.
• Proficient in version control systems, including Git and GitHub
• Must be familiar with JIRA for test and defect management
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies and experience working in Agile teams
• Advanced technical skills in Unix, SQL, Postman, Swagger, Informatica, Python, Business Objects, Hive, Datalake (Big Data) Other
• Strong problem solving abilities with excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience working with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, JIRA Service Desk, and SC3
