Assistant Manager - Environmental Health And Safety

Job Description

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Health & Safety Management

• Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies tailored to lab and engineering environments.
• Conduct risk assessments for lab equipment, oil storage, gases storage, chemical storage and engineering operations.
• Ensure compliance with national and international safety regulations (e.g., FM Global, OSHA, ISO 45001).
  
  

Lab Safety Oversight

• Supervise safe handling, storage, and disposal of oil, gases, chemicals hazardous materials.
• Ensure proper functioning and calibration of safety equipment (fume hoods, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers).
• Conduct regular lab inspections and audits.
  
  

Training & Awareness

• Identify training needs and conduct sessions on lab safety, PPE usage, emergency response, and safe engineering practices.
• Promote a safety culture through campaigns, posters, and interactive sessions.
  
  

Emergency Preparedness

• Develop and coordinate emergency response plans including fire drills, chemical spill response, and evacuation procedures.
• Liaise with local emergency services and maintain updated contact protocols.
  
  

Incident Investigation

• Lead investigations into Lab or Facility -related incidents.
• Document findings and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  
  

Regulatory Compliance

• Maintain documentation for audits and inspections.
• Stay updated on changes in safety regulations and standards.
  
  

Additional Responsibilities

• Support Business Continuity Planning (BCP) for lab/facility operations.
• Ensure Trade Compliance in handling restricted materials.
• Collaborate with Facilities and Business units EHS teams for infrastructure safety upgrades.

For This Role, You Will Need:

• 6-10 years of experience in industrial safety, preferably in R&D or engineering environments.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Proficiency in MS Office and safety management software.
• Ability to influence and drive safety initiatives across cross-functional teams.
• Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

• Graduate in Engineering or Science.
• Post Diploma / Diploma in Industrial Safety (recognized by State Technical Board or equivalent).
• Certifications in Lab Safety, Chemical Handling, or Emergency Response are a plus.
