This job description (JD) is for a Freedom Product Owner (PO) role act as a Subject-Matter-Expert (SME) in the Freedom – Center of Excellence (COE). This position manages Freedom product software lifecycle.

This role may have existing titles of a surveyor or engineer. Position manages Freedom products and performs additional job duties of a Freedom PO to support the Freedom software product and platform that is used by Clients, Engineers and Surveyors.

The Freedom team members may have Surveyor or Engineer title and will have additional responsibilities for the duties outlined in this JD (while retaining their existing title). This job description sets expectations, aligns with the integrated management system requirements, and allows retention of existing titles/qualifications.

What You Will Do:

These are job duties for the role of Freedom Product Owner. The list below may be additional responsibilities for team members who have titles of engineer and surveyor.

  • Freedom platform applications (Survey, Engineering, Client MyFreedom Portal) development and management.
  • Identify, gather requirements from business owners, and users.
  • Prepare scope, elaborate and detail the requirements for development team.
  • Perform impact assessment due to enhancements and change requests.
  • Lead product features and functionality development and management.
  • Lead cross-functional teams through a stage-gate process to develop product features based on business objectives.
  • Develop test acceptance criteria, perform testing, acceptance of test prior to deployment (production go-live) and documentation of test results.
  • Troubleshooting and investigating issues, incidents and bugs in Freedom platform. Working with Freedom team to develop solutions and resolutions.
  • Act as product and market expert across assigned categories / product verticals.
  • Align and integrate other ABS systems, and projects with Freedom, as per ABS Rules, procedures, and management requests.
  • Develop training material and conduct training for Freedom users (internal and external).
  • Meets and confers with all levels of software development and management to monitor customer satisfaction with company services/products and to provide input to project identification, prioritization, staffing and scheduling to meet company needs and objectives.
  • Communicates project / progress status, customer concerns, etc. to senior management and Client Support.
  • Work and communicates as needed with Freedom users and support teams such as Technical Authorities (Chief Engineer, Chief Surveyor, CDC, HSQE, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Marcom, Legal and Senior Management) to promote Freedom product success.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and builds the Freedom product brand value.
  • Attend product development, management and related vendor conferences to gather information and knowledge on new technologies to be incorporated into Freedom product.

What You Will Need:

Education & Experience

  • 2 - 15 years of relevant experience in naval architecture, marine engineering, ship designer, shipyard, ship management or related industry.
  • Experience in Business Analysis in software product development is preferred.
  • Exposure to digital technology products/ product management/ client support will be an advantage.
  • Experience using Asset Management and/or Lifecycle Management (EAM/PLM) platform is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Freedom platform (MyFreedom Portal, Freedom -Survey, Freedom-Engineering and/or CBP apps / tools.
  • The position requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and trouble-shooting skills with ability to establish positive client and internal stakeholder team relationships.
  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
  • Ability to perform engineering reviews and / or surveys in the prescribed format. Ability to read engineering plans and have a basic understanding of shipbuilding practices and vessel operations
  • Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
  • Agile Software Development training or related experience is a plus Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
  • Knowledge of ships hull structures, engineering systems and machinery.
  • Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, pertinent information relative to assigned area of technical expertise.
  • Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.
  • Responsiveness to customers and other stakeholders.
  • Relationship management and act as a liaison between multiple teams.
  • Working knowledge of ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to a Manager or Director or Executive level position.

Working Conditions:

The work environment will primarily be an air-conditioned office setting requiring the employee to sit for prolonged periods while concentrating on a computer screen.
