Davies Life & Health is looking for a Applications Developer who will be responsible for system development standards, design and development of new applications to support business needs, and production support enhancements.

To be successful in this role, you must have experience developing systems using Visual Basic.NET, SQL Server, and familiarity with XML and full stack applications. Additionally, you should possess strong communication skills and a willingness to work with and learn new third-party software systems and vendors. You should also be capable of working both collaboratively and independently, being proactive and taking initiative.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in and/or lead the effort in the evaluation of business requirements and processes, preparation of application system specifications and the development, testing and implementation of efficient, cost-effective applications solutions
• Follow procedures for change control and product migration
• Assume responsibility and ownership for all systems and system related problems, regardless of current assignment
• Review documented business requirements and test plans and provide technical feedback to Business Analysts
• Ensure quality through thorough unit testing of all code and participating in systems integrated testing
• Assist Business Analysts and End Users with any technical issues during systems integrated testing, parallel testing, training sessions and demonstrations
• Provide on-call support for the production systems on a rotating basis
• Maintain existing applications adhering to the established architecture and standards for that application
• Write technical documentation in support of assigned projects
• Document all code using format established by the project
• Develop and maintain effective relationships and communication with the team, other co-workers, management, clients and vendors
• Provide technical coaching and mentoring to other members of the systems development team

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or a combination of education and experience
• 5-10 years’ software development experience
• Experience in developing systems using Visual Basic.NET, SQL Server and XML.
• Experience in developing through full stack systems in building both the front-end (user-facing, client-side) and back-end (server-side, database, API) layers of web or application development.
• Experience in working with Microsoft Office Suite, code management applications like GitHub and DevOps deployment.

• Insurance industry experience preferred (life, disability and/or long-term care insurance)
