Job Description
We are seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Noida / Bangalore and take a role in the delivery of infrastructure projects. These cover the full spectrum of bridge foundation, Tunnelling, diaphragm walls, ground improvement, deep excavation from the sustainable design of new structures to the use of emerging technologies together with advanced geotechnical analysis to solve some of the most challenging asset management problems. The scale of our projects ranges from small and bespoke design commissions through to some of the most significant infrastructure projects within the UK and worldwide.

Key Responsibilities
- Engineering design and management of geotechnical projects from concept through detailed design and construction.
- Prepare and review geotechnical desk studies, Geotechnical Interpretative (GIR) and Design (GDR) reports following relevant good practice (RGP).
- Perform and review technical analysis, calculation, and design for shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, earthworks, and seepage studies.
- Collaborate effectively and communicate with multidisciplinary teams, as well as international clients, and third parties, as required.
- Produce high-quality technical memos, reports, and specifications to communicate your work.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor team members and ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Mott MacDonalds quality standard procedures.
- Demonstrate strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous learning.
- Champion digital engineering and promote efficient, sustainable, and resilient design approaches.
- Complete assigned tasks in accordance with quality, timescales, and budgeted hours.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives to develop design solutions that meet client requirements and regulatory standards.

- Development of functional concept design, development and review of technical solutions, specifications, cost estimates.

- Provide supervision and mentoring, identifying opportunities for professional development and progression along with specific line management responsibilities for designated direct reports.
- Foster a culture of right first-time delivery and work with Project Managers/Principals to ensure effective project delivery.
- Work with the Senior discipline staff and Resource Managers to proactively manage workloads and effective forecasting and ensure maximum utilisation of team members, allocate appropriate staff to projects or bids as agreed.
- Prepare and review technical reports, design calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Interface with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure project requirements and standards are met.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications
- Degree qualified in civil engineering (BE/B. Tech./ME/M. Tech./ MSc or equivalent).
- A post-graduate degree (M. Tech/ Master’s, PhD) in Geotechnical Engineering, Rock and Underground Structures, or a related field.
- Minimum 12 to 15 years of experience in design of earthworks, shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, underground structural, Tunnelling, Deep excavation, geotechnical works.
- Chartered member or working towards chartership (ICE, or equivalent).
Essential Skills And Experience
- Experience in leading teams or work packages on infrastructure projects during concept, scheme, detailed design, and construction.
- Knowledge of Eurocodes, BS standards, and local regulations.
- Undertake, review and manage soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis, demonstrable experience in Geotechnical analysis, design and assessment including an ability to undertake and oversee the modelling and analysis of soil structure interaction for diaphragm walls, pile foundation, ground improvement, deep excavation using industry standard software such as Rocscience geo-suite, PLAXIS 2D/3D, DeepEx, Repute, LPile, MIDAS GTS NX, LS-DYNA, RS2/RS3, or similar.
- Experience in developing & managing cost control and technical delivery from project teams.
- Experience in and a commitment to effective management of Health, Safety and Welfare, Safety by Design.
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals, as well as clients, and third parties, as required.
- Positive and proactive approach towards knowledge sharing, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Experience in and a commitment to effective management of Health, Safety and Welfare, Safety by Design.
- Preparation and review of technical approval documentation for highway, Tunnelling, Deep excavation and rail structures from Geotechnical Point of view.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and new technologies.
- Perform advanced geotechnical analyses, including finite element analysis and modelling, limit equilibrium and soil-structure interaction analysis for tunnel linings, retaining systems, deep foundations (well, pile, Diaphragm Wall, barrette), and ground improvement.
- Proficient with construction stage analysis for underground structure and deep excavation.
- Understanding the use of Geotechnical Investigation report and experienced to suggest Geotechnical Investigation requirements considering the project type and country specific requirement.
- Experienced in preparation of Geotechnical Interpretative Report. Providing recommendations based on the report as bearing capacity, pile capacity, soil springs etc.
- Ability to deliver high quality design documentation including option appraisals, drawings, calculations, reports, specifications and construction documentation from Geotechnical Point of view.
- An excellent understanding of relevant international standards (e.g. Eurocodes, AASHTO, etc.).
- Experience of managing project teams and technical leadership would be advantageous.
- Commercial and financial awareness, and the ability to plan and monitor project programmes, budgets and resources to ensure delivery to time and cost constraints.
- General IT software skills, such as, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, ProjectWise, Bentley and Autodesk software.
- Experience of digital delivery tools and workflows, for example BIM, parametric design and automation.
- Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with all levels of staff and clients (written and verbal)
Desirable Competencies / Skills
- Experience in the preparation of fee proposals and tender submissions would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of the sustainable design of bridges and civil structures would be advantageous.
- Chartered Engineer (ICE) from an International Geotechnical Association will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge about Soil strengthening, slope stabilization, slope cutting on soil & rock, settlement analysis, hydrogeology, dewatering technique.
