Role

The Performance Support Learning Design Team is seeking a highly skilled Principal Technical Writer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in the English language and must have a strong background in technical documentation with a keen ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly content. This role will collaborate with various departments to create comprehensive documentation that supports our products and services. In this role, you will:

• Write multi-purpose, technical content for a variety of end-deliverables, including release notes, online help, PowerPoint slides, job aids, user guides, and additional deliverables, as appropriate.
• Support deadline-driven software release cycles and create documentation from technical specifications or knowledge-transfer sessions with Product Managers or Business Analysts.
• Learn complex business software and acquire detailed knowledge of UKG products and their concepts.
• Update materials as enhancements are released, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
• Collaborate with developers, product managers, stakeholders, and editors to refine content.
• Collect feedback and metrics from end-users, when possible, to maintain and direct the creation of new materials.
• Analyze user consumption metrics to improve content findability and maintenance strategies.
• Apply expertise in DITA XML, CMS, and CCMS to manage and publish content.
• Lead discussions on content structure, hierarchy, and template improvements.
• Maintain a strategic perspective, considering cross-functional impacts of technical documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Technical Writing, Communications, English, Computer Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Technical Writer, preferably with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
• Strong understanding of technical concepts and the ability to communicate them effectively.
• Proficiency with documentation tools such as Heretto or similar software.
• Knowledge of content management systems and version control systems.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  
  

Preferred Skills

• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with markup languages such as HTML, XML, or Markdown.
• Basic understanding of programming languages and software development.
• Experience with Agile development methodologies is a plus.
• Familiarity with OpenAPI / Swagger specifications and API description formats (YAML/JSON) is a plus.
