Position: Head of Accounting & Tax

NextGen Group is seeking an experienced and execution-focused Head of Accounting & Tax to lead our Bookkeeping, Accounting and Tax teams supporting Australian businesses and accounting practices.

This senior leadership role will take complete ownership of work allocated to the India team, ensuring every job is delivered accurately, efficiently and within agreed timelines. The successful candidate will work closely with Team Leaders to improve processes, strengthen quality controls and build a dependable, scalable delivery function.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Bookkeeping, Accounting and Tax teams.
• Allocate work based on capacity, skills and deadlines.
• Ensure timely delivery, technical accuracy and proper workpapers.
• Establish effective review, quality-control and escalation processes.
• Monitor staff productivity, timesheets, utilisation and job budgets.
• Improve workflows, efficiency and adoption of automation.
• Oversee monthly P&L and balance-sheet reporting for NextGen Group entities.
• Manage and review client and group AR/AP processes.
• Monitor WIP, billing and scope to prevent revenue leakage.
• Coach Team Leaders and build staff capability and accountability.
• Coordinate with the Australian leadership and client-service teams.
  
  

Requirements

Candidate Profile

• CA/CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• 10+ years of accounting and tax experience, including senior team leadership.
• Strong experience with Australian accounting, bookkeeping, GST, BAS and tax workflows.
• Experience with Xero, Xero Practice Manager, MYOB or similar platforms.
• Strong operational leadership, review and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to take complete ownership of execution, quality and deadlines.
