Job Description

The Safety Officer is a crucial member of any organization, responsible for ensuring the health and safety of employees and the workplace environment. This role involves developing and implementing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and enforcing compliance with health and safety regulations. The Safety Officer works diligently to prevent accidents and injuries by promoting safe working practices and maintaining a safe environment. They play a vital role in crafting emergency response plans and conducting training sessions for staff, emphasizing the importance of workplace safety protocols and procedures. With a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills, the Safety Officer identifies potential hazards, recommends improvements, and provides guidance to management and employees to foster a culture of safety.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures for the organization.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Monitor the implementation of safety protocols and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Conduct safety training sessions for employees to promote awareness and compliance.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to ensure they meet safety standards and regulations.
  • Investigate and report on workplace accidents and incidents to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with management to develop emergency response and evacuation plans.
  • Maintain records of safety inspections, incidents, and compliance with regulations.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors and employees regarding health and safety issues.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies to ensure organizational compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead regular safety meetings to discuss safety issues and introduce new protocols.
  • Stay updated on new safety regulations and industry practices to improve safety efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a safety officer or similar role is required.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey information.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is an advantage.
  • Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement practical safety solutions.
  • Proficiency in using computers and safety management software applications.
