Job Description

The Restaurant Captain plays a pivotal role in the smooth operation of a dining establishment, acting as a bridge between the kitchen staff and the customers to ensure a top-notch dining experience. A Restaurant Captain must possess strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and excellent customer service capabilities. This role involves overseeing a team of servers, ensuring guests are satisfied with their dining experience, and coordinating with kitchen staff to maintain service efficiency. The Restaurant Captain not only manages the flow of service but also handles reservations, coordinates seating arrangements, and handles any issues that may arise during a shift. Success in this position requires a thorough understanding of the restaurant’s menu, a knack for problem-solving, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the dining room to ensure efficiency and quality service.
  • Facilitate communication between kitchen staff and the front-of-house team to ensure seamless operations.
  • Ensure that the restaurant is clean, well-maintained, and ready for guests at all times.
  • Greet guests, manage reservations, and coordinate seating arrangements to optimize flow.
  • Resolve any customer complaints efficiently and professionally to maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Train and mentor new and existing staff members to maintain high service standards.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure the restaurant is always well-stocked.
  • Prepare daily reports on operations and present them to restaurant management.
  • Assist servers in taking orders during peak hours to ensure timely service.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and standards at all times.
  • Coordinate and plan special events or promotions with the restaurant management.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to provide updates and gather feedback from staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; hospitality qualification is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Restaurant Captain or similar role in the foodservice industry.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills to oversee dining operations effectively.
  • Strong customer service skills with an ability to address issues professionally.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse teams.
  • Ability to multitask and remain composed during high-pressure situations.
  • Solid understanding of restaurant etiquette and service standards for fine dining establishments.
