Job Description

The Restaurant Captain plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of dining services. As a leader and key member of the restaurant's front-of-house team, the Restaurant Captain provides exceptional service, supervises staff, and coordinates activities to ensure diners have a memorable experience. Working closely with the manager and the kitchen team, the Captain also ensures that all food and beverage is served according to the restaurant's standards. The Restaurant Captain is responsible for resolving customer complaints and improving the overall guest experience. This position requires strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills along with a passion for the hospitality industry.


Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the dining room staff during service hours.
  • Ensure all customers receive prompt and courteous service to enhance their dining experience.
  • Assist in resolving any service or customer-related issues promptly and professionally.
  • Train new dining staff members on restaurant protocols and service standards.
  • Oversee the preparation of the dining area and ensure cleanliness at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with the kitchen staff and management to fulfill service needs.
  • Manage reservations and coordinate seating arrangements for efficient service flow.
  • Monitor supplies and equipment needed for dining service, reporting shortages as necessary.
  • Facilitate the setup and service for special events and private dining experiences.
  • Conduct daily briefings with staff to communicate special instructions and menu changes.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations always within the dining area.
  • Provide feedback to staff and management on improving operational and service effectiveness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; hospitality degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the food and beverage industry.
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively during busy periods.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards in a restaurant setting.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
