Job Description

The role of a Quantity Surveyor is crucial in the construction industry, as it involves ensuring that construction projects are financially viable and completed within budget. Quantity Surveyors are responsible for evaluating costs related to construction projects, including materials, labor, and time management. They collaborate with project teams to provide expert advice on cost management, and they utilize their technical skills to ensure the efficient allocation of resources. Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates to support project planning and execution activities.
  • Manage and maintain accurate financial records and document project expenditures.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and value engineering exercises.
  • Collaborate with architects and project managers to discuss project scope and budget.
  • Negotiate contracts and orders with suppliers to ensure best value pricing.
  • Monitor construction progress and advise on any variances from budget estimations.
  • Prepare interim valuations and final accounts for project settlements.
  • Analyze project costs to identify potential savings opportunities and efficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, standards, and company policies.
  • Provide regular reports and updates on project financial status to stakeholders.
  • Manage changes to the project scope, ensuring the implications are properly costed.
  • Review and approve invoices submitted by contractors and service providers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in cost estimation and budget management within construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and common industry practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail for effective cost management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in relevant software such as AutoCAD, MS Excel, and project management tools.
  • Professional certification or affiliation with a recognized surveying institute is desirable.
