In India, TNC is supporting large integrated programs, including the Aravalli Green Wall initiative led by the government of India and related states. This senior role at The Nature Conservancy India is centered on leading large-scale landscape restoration initiatives, providing technical expertise, and developing strategic programs that align with global conservation priorities. The position involves guiding restoration projects from design to implementation, fostering partnerships across sectors, sharing knowledge, and securing resources to drive environmental, social, and economic outcomes for ecosystem regeneration and climate resilience

We’re Looking For You

Roles and responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership And Program Development

  • Lead the design and execution of large-scale landscape restoration strategies aligned with TNC-India’s mission, including reforestation, ecosystem restoration, and regenerative land use.
  • Coordinate teams to identify priority landscapes and develop actionable plans that advance India’s conservation goals and support global/national targets such as the Bonn Challenge, UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, and national commitments (NDCs, SDGs, LDN).

Technical Expertise And Advisory

  • Provide expert guidance on restoration methods like agroforestry, native species planting, invasive species control, and soil and water conservation.
  • Integrate cutting-edge science and nature-based solutions into projects.
  • Develop and utilize GIS, remote sensing, and decision-support tools for monitoring and planning.

Stakeholder Engagement And Partnerships

  • Build partnerships with government, private sector, community groups, and NGOs to drive restoration.
  • Lead inclusive, multi-stakeholder processes for equitable and participatory initiatives.
  • Represent TNC-India at key meetings, conferences, and forums in India and globally.

Capacity Building, Knowledge Sharing, Mentoring

  • Conduct workshops and trainings to build capacity among staff, communities, and partners.
  • Promote knowledge-sharing via case studies, publications, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with research institutions to strengthen the evidence base for restoration.

Project Implementation And Monitoring

  • Develop and implement operational plans for effective program delivery.
  • Oversee high-priority projects, ensuring they meet timelines, scope, and quality standards.
  • Pursue and secure funding from donors, governments, and private partners.
  • Prepare grant proposals, concept notes, and donor reports.

Deliverables (some Examples)

  • Comprehensive landscape restoration plans and strategies for priority areas.
  • Stakeholder engagement frameworks and partnership agreements.
  • Monitoring reports detailing ecological, social, economic outcomes of restoration projects.
  • Capacity-building materials and training sessions for partners and communities.
  • Policy recommendations and communications materials relating to landscape restoration.

What You’ll Bring

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or related field with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in restoration planning tools (e.g., ROAM), GIS, remote sensing technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of ecological restoration principles, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable agriculture practices.
  • Previous work experience with international organizations, non-governmental organizations, government agencies, or other similar applied science roles.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage large-scale, multi-stakeholder conservation projects.
  • Experience working with local communities, and government agencies is required.
  • Strong communication skills in English (both written and spoken). Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in handling complex projects, including financial aspects and coordination with peers and partners.

Desired Qualifications

  • PhD in Environmental Science, Ecology, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or related field or a minimum of 12-15 years of experience in Environmental Science, Ecology, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or related field
  • Team management experience with strong networks in the conservation field.
  • On-ground implementation expertise.
  • Strategic thinking and advanced analytical abilities.

Reporting and Supervision: The Program Lead, Landscape Restoration position is a senior-level position within NCIS. S/he will report to Director, Programs and work closely with TNC’s science, conservation, and policy teams, as well as external partners.
