The Climate Change and Sustainability (CCS) Practice provides end-to-end system & technological solutions for governments, donors, and the private sector to address the crisis - spanning climate policy integration, finance mobilisation, low-carbon transitions, circular economy, nature-based solutions, disaster risk reduction, and just transitions for vulnerable communities. The Climate Change and Sustainability practice at IPE Global has substantial experience delivering multiyear and high-impact programmes for multi-lateral, bi-lateral funders along with philanthropic partners. These programmes are supported by leading donors and foundations and are implemented in partnership with coveted research institutions, civil society organisations, and public institutions. The Climate Change and Sustainability practice of IPE Global is working in multiple projects across India, South Asia and Southeast Asia and in East Africa.


Job Description:


Key Responsibilities:


Business Development (70%):


  • Identifying new business opportunities within India, South Asia, and Africa, developing leads, writing proposals, managing cross functional teams and contacting potential donors.
  • Play a key role as manager with project staff to successfully manage proposal efforts and resources, including timeline and action planning, identification of proposal team members, facilitation of external partner meetings, efficient communications, and organisation of proposal components, including cost and budget
  • Keeping up to date with trends within the sector, undertaking outreach activities, generating reports, and presenting an analysis of business development progress.
  • Expanding on CCS’s current work, identify growth opportunities and develop annual strategies in close partnership with team leaders and senior management.
  • Writing high-quality technical proposals and contributing to all aspects of financial proposal development. Undertaking independent research to identify suitable donors, assessing donor needs and alignment, conducting outreach activities and conducting meetings with potential funders, developing and making proposal presentations.
  • Support the development of relevant communication collaterals;
  • Ensuring targets are met periodically, generating reports, and presenting an analysis of business development progress.
  • Is open to new ideas and perspectives, actively works to identify new opportunities.


Programme Management (20%):

  • Provide support or leadership as needed to identify and secure partners, consultants, and full-time staff;
  • Coordinate with project implementation teams to ensure quality and timeliness of deliverables.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with donor, funder, and/or client counterparts;
  • Oversee routine project management activities, including reviewing and submitting project reports to donors, developing budgets and work plans, and backstopping operations as needed.
  • Ability to summarise and communicate the insights/findings in written and oral formats.


Thought Leadership (10%):

  • Participate in appropriate networking events and stay current on developments and trends in the sector;
  • Represent IPE externally and contribute to marketing documents, blog posts, op-ed pieces, and success stories that share the organisation’s expertise externally.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Communications team to identify strategic industry outlets and opportunities for presenting and sharing portfolio work and results;
  • Develop thought leadership content such as evidence papers, policy notes, and research publications.


Qualifications & Experience:


Education & Experience:

Master’s degree in environmental studies, Energy Studies, Resource Economics, International Development, Urban Planning or a related field, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience, including demonstrated leadership in developing and securing proposals for multilateral, bilateral funding agencies and philanthropic grants.


Business Development & Program Leadership:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in business development, program management, advocacy, knowledge management, and strategic communications within Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction, Urban infrastructure or related domains. Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, develop proposals, and manage strategic partnerships.
  • Strong analytical capacity with demonstrated ability to synthesize complex technical and financial information into strategic insights, investment cases, concept notes, and high-quality knowledge products tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Liaising with governments and donors.
  • Microsoft office skills necessary.


Professional Attributes:


Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience developing multi-year proposals for bilateral/multilateral organisations, foundations and philanthropies. A good grasp of the Climate Change sector is a must.
  • Hands-on experience in structuring commercial proposals.
  • Experience and knowledge of climate change policy and program development, especially with low carbon and decarbonisation announcements and regulations demonstrated experience working with government agencies, stakeholder groups, and others, and experience with and understanding of climate financial markets.
  • Experience working with Governments and international aid agencies.
  • Experienced in working with data and comfortable using Excel spreadsheets as well as online data capture and reporting tools. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Having previous experience in devising and backing projects on strong knowledge of (a) climate change science, (b) the policy/regulatory environment of climate change, and (c) how leading businesses are responding.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a commitment to mentoring and team development.
  • Demonstrable team management experience and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to consult, influence and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project Management expertise, including the management of large project teams.
