Main purpose of job:


We are looking for a dynamic, high-calibre colleague to join an experienced team that leads on the India- UK inward investment relationship. The UK is a preferred inward investment destination for Indian companies- we are growing this team to work on retaining this position as we develop our future strategy, aligning with the UK’s expanded Office for Investment.


Your role will be to coordinate DBT’s Inward Investment operations in New Delhi (Non-NCR Northern States) working closely with the Investment team including:


  • Promoting the UK as the ideal destination for inward investment to Indian companies in New Delhi (Non-NCR Northern States)
  • Coordinating key account management of important Indian businesses working closely with the Investment leadership team
  • Working with colleagues to drive lead generation of investment projects with a focus on Tier 2 cities in New Delhi (Non-NCR Northern States) coordinating with the Deputy High Commissioners in the region, the DBT Senior Leadership Team and HQ on important Ministerial Visits and strategic priorities.


You will be expected to develop and deliver a strong pipeline of current and future investment projects and contribute to the wider DBT / UK in India effort across a range of corporate objectives. You will be supported with opportunities to get the right learning and development, career development and opportunities to travel.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:


  • Investment Success (45%): To ensure a strong contribution of investment wins from the region is delivered and that a healthy pipeline of future investment projects is developed. You will be responsible for delivery against some challenging targets including Industrial Strategy sectoral and strategic priorities. Based on investor interactions/in market understanding, support the senior management team in refreshing the investment strategy in certain priority sectors on an ongoing basis. You will build strong links to, and work in partnership with, the UK Government’s investment partners and multipliers in India and the UK (regions, HQ, commercial partners) to ensure investors are provided with a seamless end-to-end service which consistently leads to investment successes in the UK. Use case studies to encourage more investments.


  • Strategic Relationship Management (20%): To develop and maintain relationships with significant existing investors in the region with an objective of delivering high impact inward investment.


  • People (20%): Line management responsibilities are a critical part of this role. You will be responsible for developing and motivating staff to deliver on their goals, providing regular feedback, and ongoing support. You will need to ensure there is effective communication and coordination within your regional team and with the wider investment team/ UK in India network.


  • Events and Visits (15%): In coordination with the marketing/events team and Investment leadership team, develop a coordinated engagement plan for Tier 2 locations in New Delhi (Non-NCR Northern States) with the objective to deliver high impact investment pipeline. To support Ministerial Visits /trade activities to maximize opportunities for investment contacts to meet visitors from the UK. This will include providing comprehensive and compelling briefing and updates and on occasion accompanying senior colleagues/ VIPs on their engagements.


Language requirements:


  • Language: English & Hindi
  • Level of Language Required: 1) Expert level in written & spoken English, 2) Strong speaking skills in Hindi


Essential Skills:


  • Education Qualifications : Graduate/postgraduate
  • Minimum of 8-10 years relevant commercial/business development experience : We are seeking a candidate who has experience of working in some aspect of trade and investment in an international context / relevant work experience that has led to an in-depth understanding of Foreign Direct Investment promotion/ attraction.
  • Team leadership experience : at least 3-5 years of direct line management experience.
  • Evidence of having managed senior relationships : A track record of dealing with senior level decision makers in the business world with minimal supervision.
  • A proven ability to manage a portfolio of projects with significant impact/complexity and/or track record of delivering results/success in a consultative sales environment.
  • An in-depth market understanding / experience of dealing with Indian businesses in New Delhi (Non-NCR Northern States).
  • The ability to multitask including manage multiple deadlines/ projects in parallel
  • Excellent interpersonal, team working and people management skills
