Job Description

The role of Commis Chef is an entry-level position within a professional kitchen team. As a Commis Chef, you will work under the supervision and direction of senior chefs, assisting in the preparation and cooking of various dishes as per the restaurant’s menu. You will gain extensive experience and develop culinary skills by learning different kitchen stations, understanding ingredient preparations, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of ingredients as directed by senior chefs.

  • Follow recipes and techniques to ensure consistency in dish preparation.
  • Assist with the preparation and setting up of kitchen stations for operations.
  • Support the culinary team in delivering high-quality meals for all service periods.
  • Participate in daily kitchen operations and routine kitchen tasks as needed.
  • Receive and check orders delivered to the kitchen for accuracy and quality.
  • Adhere to all health and safety practices within the kitchen environment.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain tools and utensils in good condition.
  • Communicate effectively with all kitchen staff to ensure smooth service.
  • Engage in continuous culinary training to refine skills and advance expertise.
  • Assist in menu development and planning activities under the guidance of senior chefs.

Requirements

  • Previous experience or training in a professional kitchen environment preferred.
  • A culinary degree or equivalent experience will be beneficial for this role.
  • Passion for cooking and a desire to pursue a career in the culinary arts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse kitchen team.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of health and hygiene at all times.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
