The role- Assistant Manager – Safety, Security, Health, and Environment (SSHE)

What you'll be responsible for

  • Execute a localized site-specific SSHE Strategy and Implementation Plan in line with the METSA and India strategies, policies, and standards to deliver against Kwality Wall's business unit and national SSHE strategies.
  • Manage and develop a focused site-level SSHE team, overseeing 1-2 direct reports to deliver safety results.
  • Lead the culture change process for SSHE at the Nashik factory. Track performance against all SSHE targets and maintain local governance tools aligned with overarching company requirements (e.g., MOC, incident tracking).
  • Oversee the legal SSHE compliance of the Sinnar site to ensure it meets all local, state (e.g., Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, local disaster management and fire safety authorities, local governing bodies such as the MIDC and municipality), and national regulatory requirements, alongside Kwality Wall's and The Magnum Ice Cream Company's internal requirements.
  • Advise line management in accident/incident investigations. Lead critical root cause investigations for complex site incidents and support the site leaders in emergency planning and response.
  • Determine training needs and assist in the delivery of training programs to build professional SSHE skills across the factory workforce. Maintain local expertise in technologies like machine safety, mechanized material handling equipment (MMHE) safety (e.g., safe operation of Battery Operated Pallet Trucks (BOPT)), confined spaces including cold rooms, ergonomics for the machines and in the office spaces, and emergency planning.
  • Manage change to balance risk by implementing appropriate controls, maintaining a strong network to manage the risk of upcoming changes in factory capital projects or automation upgrades.
  • Lead the local auditing program. Develop local reporting with trend analysis from incidents, near misses, and high-risk behavior observations. Prepare for the monthly SSHE meetings and present on the reportings and initiatives.
  • Ensure and support supplier and third-party vendor safety checks, audits, and guidance to ensure safe working conditions across the value chain.
  • Driving compliant execution of ETP/STP operations while leading site-wide sustainability initiatives to deliver measurable environmental and business impact.
  • Ensure timely environmental reporting, statutory submissions, and audits with accurate documentation and transparency
  • Drive Safety and Environment pillars of Ice cream Manufacturing System as per route map .

We're looking for someone who

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or Industrial Safety (B.E./B.Tech/Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in factory operations or manufacturing safety, including accountability for results and managing small teams.
  • Strong understanding of Indian manufacturing compliance frameworks, local and national environmental, safety, and factory-working regulations, including the Factories Act, Air Act, Water Act, Environment Protection Act, Petroleum Act, MSIHC Rules, SMPV Rules, and SWM Rules.
  • Proven track record of analytical thinking, root-cause analysis, and shopfloor project management.
  • Working knowledge of SSHE IT tools and how those tools integrate into functional factory work processes.
  • Experience in handling of large Wastewater treatment plant including Operations, Maintenance .
  • Ability to manage multiple requests, prioritize simultaneously, and influence deliverables, decisions, and initiatives on the shopfloor.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience in FMCG, food manufacturing, ice cream, or other cold-chain industry.
  • Working experience with automated factory processes and material handling safety.
  • Manufacturing site leadership experience or previous roles working closely in cross-functional matrixes with HR and operations.
