The role of a Medical Records Assistant is vital within any healthcare setting, as it involves managing the critical records and information that healthcare professionals rely on to deliver effective patient care. Responsibilities

  • Organize and maintain medical records in a manner compliant with regulations.
  • Data entry of healthcare information into electronic health record systems.
  • Assist healthcare professionals by retrieving patient medical records as needed.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of patient data in records.
  • Protect the confidentiality of patient information in line with HIPAA standards.
  • Process requests and releases of medical information following legal procedures.
  • Conduct regular audits of medical records for accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with healthcare staff to update patient records when necessary.
  • Assist with the preparation of medical records for new patient admissions.
  • Provide support during electronic health record system upgrades and testing.
  • Maintain the integrity and organization of both physical and digital files.
  • Respond promptly to requests and inquiries about medical records from authorized personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical records preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and medical coding systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and healthcare processes.
  • Ability to handle sensitive medical information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Proficient in using computer software, particularly for data entry tasks.
