Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the Bank's business strategy, operating environment and strategic priorities, and contribute to the delivery of the objectives of both the Legal and Business teams. Partner with stakeholders on key strategic initiatives, including the development of new products, services and processes, and the ongoing enhancement of existing business frameworks. Provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice to enable business growth while ensuring robust governance and proactive identification, assessment and management of legal risks arising from the Bank's activities in India.
Business
Provide timely, practical and commercially focused legal support to the CIB and TB businesses in India, facilitating the achievement of business objectives within the Bank's risk appetite, legal and regulatory framework.
Collaborate with colleagues across the Legal function and other control functions to deliver effective solutions on complex legal, regulatory and business matters impacting the Bank's operations in India.
Support the adaptation and implementation of global products, initiatives and documentation in India, ensuring consistency with Group standards while addressing local legal and regulatory requirements.
Work closely with Product, Business, Compliance, Operations, Documentation and other stakeholders to facilitate the launch of new products, processes and initiatives, and the enhancement of existing offerings.
Processes
Ascertain that the local documents are aligned with the global documents and processes.
Identify gaps in legal processes and documentation, and initiate review or remediation as required to address such gaps.
Establish, maintain and continuously enhance legal processes and documentation standards to support efficient and consistent delivery of legal services to the business.
Collaborate with stakeholders to streamline processes, simplify documentation and improve client and business outcomes while maintaining appropriate legal and regulatory safeguards.
People & Talent
Engagement with stakeholders for working towards ease of business and simplification of processes and documents.
Collaborate with members of Legal teams across SCB network locations.
Risk Management
Identify, assess and categorise legal risks arising from products, transactions, documentation and business initiatives, ensuring that such risks are appropriately evaluated and managed.
Determine matters requiring approvals, waivers or escalations under applicable policies and governance frameworks, and ensure that legal risks are promptly highlighted to relevant stakeholders and committees.
Provide legal guidance to support informed decision-making, balancing commercial objectives with the Bank’s legal, regulatory and reputational risk considerations.
Governance
Ensure compliance of documentation with applicable laws, regulations and Group governance standards.
Conduct periodic reviews of product governance documents.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.
