Job Description

The Fire & Life Safety Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of a facility's occupants by managing and implementing fire safety protocols and emergency procedures. This role involves the direct inspection of buildings to ensure compliance with fire codes and regulations and maintaining all fire safety equipment effectively. Working closely with management and staff, the Fire & Life Safety Officer will develop evacuation plans, conduct fire drills, and provide training to ensure that all personnel are prepared to respond effectively in the event of an emergency. Additionally, the position requires staying informed on new fire safety laws, technologies, and best practices to recommend improvements in fire prevention strategies actively. This is an essential position within any organization that prioritizes a safe and hazard-free environment for all.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with fire codes.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive fire safety and evacuation plans.
  • Deliver training and drills to employees on fire prevention practices.
  • Oversee the installation and maintenance of fire alarms and extinguishing equipment.
  • Work with local fire departments for coordination of emergency procedures.
  • Review architectural plans for compliance with safety regulations before construction.
  • Investigate causes of fires and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare detailed reports on fire safety inspections and incidents for management.
  • Advise management on legislative changes affecting fire safety policies.
  • Ensure that fire safety signs and notices are visible and properly maintained.
  • Assist in emergency response and crisis management planning and execution.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential fire and safety hazards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in fire science, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a fire safety or similar role required.
  • Strong understanding of fire safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail required for inspections.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, staff, and emergency responders.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver educational training programs on fire safety.
  • Certification in safety management or fire safety management is advantageous.
