Job Description

We are Emkay Global,a legacy capital markets institution. Our Wealth Management practice, Emkay Wealth, produces a flagship monthly magazine, The Navigator, for our clients. The magazine covers market views, fixed income themes, commodities, sector outlooks, specific high-conviction investment recommendations, among other things. It is written by our Head of Research and lands on the desks of some of the most sophisticated investors in the country.

We are looking for a freelance editorial designer to redesign the magazine, with reference to past issues and existing templates, and deliver one fully designed issue as the primary output. The expectation is that you design with a system in mind: templates, grids, and typographic decisions that can carry forward issue to issue beyond this initial engagement.

You will be working with existing written and data content.

What You Will Work On

The redesign covers the full publication Cover, editorial layout, data visualisation, and all recurring sections.

Market commentary and written editorial Long-form written sections that require typographic hierarchy, reading flow, with callouts for specific sections.

Data and charts Fund performance, asset allocation, market indicators, sector data. We are looking for creative and custom information design that converts complexity into clarity. It needs to be designed so that a sophisticated reader can extract meaning at a glance.

Recurring structural elements Headers, folios, section dividers, pull quotes, captions etc. that create a consistent reading rhythm across the issue.

What We Are Looking For

Data visualisation and information design A significant portion of the magazine is financial data like performance numbers, ratios, allocations, market movements. However, the creative scope is significant. We are looking for original information design, beyond standard charts. The form should follow the insight, making complex data legible to a reader who is sophisticated but time-poor.

Editorial design You think in typographic hierarchy, page architecture, and visual rhythm. You know how a reader moves through a publication and you design for that experience deliberately.

Financial services literacy You need to be comfortable or interested in learning about financial content, understand what it is communicating, and make intelligent design decisions based on that understanding.

Typography Strong, considered typographic choices are the backbone of good editorial design. We are open to a conversation about typeface selection as part of the redesign process.

Colour and visual sensibility We have an existing colour palette and logo. You will work within these assets. What we are looking for is the judgment to use them with restraint and sophistication, not just compliance.

Print and digital fluency The magazine lives in both formats and must work in both.

Tools

Figma or InDesign — your preference. What matters is the quality of the output and the robustness of the system you build. You will receive existing brand assets, colour palette, logos, and past issues as reference material.

The engagement

This is a project-based engagement with natural scope to continue beyond the first issue for the right designer. The primary deliverable is one fully designed issue, along with the underlying template system — grids, master pages, typographic styles, recurring components — so that subsequent issues can be produced consistently.
