About the Role

The Credit Manager – Education Loan is responsible for managing the credit underwriting process for education loan proposals, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory frameworks. Based in Mumbai, this role involves evaluating student profiles, academic backgrounds, and future employability to make informed credit decisions. The role also includes contributing to product development, improving operational efficiency through automation, and maintaining portfolio quality while delivering a high-quality customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Recommend improvements to credit policies and procedures, ensuring documentation and communication to mitigate risks and enhance service quality.
  • Collaborate with the Product Head to support the design and rollout of new products.
  • Implement credit policies to maintain portfolio quality and meet turnaround time (TAT) targets.
  • Understand and apply policies to ensure smooth transaction flow.
  • Conduct personal discussions with students and parents to assess creditworthiness, including evaluation of academic performance, course selection, institution reputation, and future employability.
  • Leverage automation and digitization tools to improve process efficiency.
  • Analyze delinquency trends and provide feedback to product teams for necessary adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and regulatory frameworks across the business.
  • Coordinate with internal and regulatory audit teams to address requirements and concerns related to credit policies and their implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Collections team to reduce net credit loss and delinquency by identifying trends and initiating corrective actions.
  • Review and approve credit proposals within delegated authority; escalate others as necessary, ensuring adherence to the bank’s credit policy.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Monitor and review the performance of the education loan portfolio, recommending adjustments as needed.
  • Promote the use of market intelligence and data analytics to support growth and profitability.
  • Stay updated on new courses, employment trends, and competitor strategies in key markets.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce operational costs and enhance profitability.

Managerial & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Monitor key metrics such as productivity, hiring quality, and attrition, and implement improvements.
  • Champion IDFC FIRST Bank’s customer-first culture by promoting high service standards.
  • Attract and retain top talent for key roles within the team.
  • Foster collaboration with credit, technology, analytics, and risk teams to ensure smooth business operations.
  • Partner with the Policies team to ensure all decisions align with the prescribed framework.

Education

  • Graduation (Full-time)

Experience

  • 2 years of experience in credit underwriting, preferably in education loans or retail lending.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong understanding of credit policies, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to evaluate academic and employment potential for education loan applicants.
  • Experience in portfolio monitoring and delinquency management.
  • Proficiency in automation and digitization tools to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinking with a focus on cost optimization and profitability.
  • Leadership capabilities to manage teams and drive cross-functional collaboration.
