Role description:
Job Description: The Traffic engineer must ensure timely delivery of all project activities as per contract scope and KPIs. Coordinate with client representatives and stakeholders for smooth project operations. Supervise and manage project team members, ensuring efficient task allocation and productivity. Conduct regular review meetings to track progress and resolve issues. Identify training and development needs for the team. Ensure uninterrupted operation of systems/equipment under O&M scope. Monitor preventive and corrective maintenance activities. Maintains proper documentation, logs, and reports as per project requirements. Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. Conduct periodic audits and maintain project documentation. Ensure Project expenses are within budget, monitor expenses, and ensure cost control. Oversee preparation and submission of client invoices and follow up for timely payment collection. Build and maintain strong relationships with client representatives. Handle client communication, reporting, and performance reviews. Address client concerns and ensure high satisfaction levels. The role will involve analysis, design, simulation, implementation support, and coordination with traffic police and municipal authorities to improve network performance and road safety.
Role accountabilities:
The Sr. Traffic Engineer will be responsible for the following scope of work under the Project:
- Undertake day-to-day traffic signal operations, including monitoring, review, and optimisation of signalised intersections.
- Analyse and prepare signal timing plans (cycle times, phase splits, and offsets) for peak and off-peak conditions.
- Support the implementation, fine-tuning, and monitoring of signal plans in coordination with traffic police and field teams.
- Assist in managing ATCS / adaptive traffic signal systems, including data analysis, performance review, and operational improvements.
- Conduct traffic studies, including traffic volume counts, turning movement counts, speed and delay studies, queue length analysis, and pedestrian surveys.
- Prepare and review Traffic Impact Assessments (TIA) for developments, corridors, and junction improvement projects.
- Analyse congestion patterns, develop traffic management proposals, and support junction improvement designs.
- Develop and analyse traffic simulation models for junctions, corridors, and area-wide studies.
- Prepare technical reports, drawings, and presentations for client and authority submissions.
- Coordinate with municipal corporations, traffic police, metro agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in site visits, traffic surveys, and post-implementation reviews.
- Operation and Maintenance of Failure/Fault Management System (FMS) at BMC ATC Control Room, Worli:
The work involves operation and monitoring of Failure/Fault Management System at BMC ATC Control Room. FMS Operator works in normal shift from 9am to 5pm. The role is to ensure that all the activities are carried out by the FMS operators as per the SOP and daily FMS calls are submitted to O&M Teams and client as per schedule. The maintenance includes comprehensive maintenance of equipment installed at BMC ATC Control Room. The role is to ensure that the FMS Server, PCs, Videowalls, UPS, network connectivity, etc. are functioning properly and in case of any issues raise complaint to relevant Vendors appointed for the O&M of the equipment and get the equipment repaired/replaced at the earliest to ensure no penalty is levied by Client due to SLA breach.
- Operation and Maintenance of Central Control Room at TPHQ:
The work involves operation and maintenance of Central Control Room in three shifts in Traffic Police Head Quarter. The Operators work in 3 shifts; the role is to ensure that all the activities are carried out by the shift operators as per the SOP of each shift and daily reports are submitted to client as per schedule. The maintenance includes comprehensive maintenance of the equipment installed in Central Control Room. The role is to ensure that the Servers, PCs, ACs, Videowalls, UPS, MTNL network connectivity, etc. at the Central Control room are functioning properly and in case of any issues raise complaint to relevant Vendors appointed for the O&M of the equipment and get the equipment repaired/replaced at the earliest to ensure no penalty is levied by Client due to SLA breach.
- Storage Depot Maintenance & Inventory Management
The role is to ensure that the Depot Manager & Storekeeper deputed at the Storage depot carry out the testing and inventory management of all the electronic cards/ equipment of the respective maintenance contracts of ATC department. The role is to ensure the availability of the labours and security personnel to ensure no penalty is levied by Client due to SLA Breach.
- Remote Support of OEM for Software issues
The responsibility included communication with Software OEM to get the activity done of Remote Support for health check-up, any technical issue arises in system and half yearly Review, system audit & level 3 ITIL maintenance of system.
In addition to the above, the role also includes attending to Traffic junction & signal related complaints received from Traffic Police, BMC Engineers and other stakeholders by visiting the site, evaluating options and providing best possible option to resolve the traffic junction and Traffic signal related issues.
Attend to Traffic junction and Traffic Signal related meetings with Client, Traffic Police, O&M Teams and provide necessary inputs and guidance. Carry out monthly coordination meeting with the Team and do regular site visits.
Qualifications & Experience:
B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electrical/ Electronics/ Electronics & Telecommunication/ Computer/ Information Technology/ Civil
or Minimum 3 years’ experience in Transportation/Traffic project for M.E./M.Tech candidate
Skills:
- Hands-on experience in traffic signal analysis and operations.
- Working knowledge of traffic modelling and analysis tools (VISSIM, SUMO, SIDRA, SYNCHRO, or similar).
- Proficiency in Excel, AutoCAD, and GIS (QGIS/ArcGIS).
- Strong understanding of urban traffic operations, junction design, and signal control principles.
