JOB SUMMARY

The Process and Quality Manager will be responsible for process planning, manufacturing readiness, supplier quality, and continuous improvement activities for Motor manufacturing operations. The role involves establishing robust manufacturing processes, improving operational efficiency and supporting for development topics. The position requires strong collaboration with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, SCM, Supplier teams to ensure high product quality, manufacturing reliability, and operational excellence

Roles & Responsibilities for Shopfloor Operational Quality Manager

(HV Motors & MV Drives Factory)

1. Incoming & In‑Process Quality Control & Monitoring à Responsibilities

• Ensure quality compliance at all shopfloor stages: winding, coil dressing, VPI, assembly, rotor balancing, machining, and HV testing.
• Ensure the in process Motors or drives as per Checklist /Control Plan
• Conduct patrol inspections, sampling inspections, and layered process audits.
• Verify adherence to specifications, drawings, and work instructions.
• Detect defects early and prevent defective materials from moving to the next stage.

KPIs

• In‑Process Defect Rate (%)
• Stage‑wise First Pass Yield (FPY %)
• Number of Escape Defects to Next Process
• Layered Process Audit Score (%)

2. Quality Gate Management à Responsibilities

• Implement and control quality gates/ verify as per Checklist for critical stages as per Control plan and QAP (Copper à winding à VPI à  assembly à testing)
• Ensure no motor/drive proceeds without passing mandatory quality checks.
• Monitor adherence to checkpoints, inspection records, and digital sign‑off.

KPIs

• Quality Gate Compliance (%)
• Gate‑Wise Rejection/Stop Incidents
• Gate Check sheet/ Checklist Completeness (%)

3. Root‑Cause Analysis & Corrective Action Deployment (CAPA) à Responsibilities

• Lead on‑floor root‑cause investigations for failures and deviations.
• Use structured tools: 8D, 5‑Why, Ishikawa, FMEA.
• Validate effectiveness of corrective actions through follow‑up audits.

KPIs

• CAPA Closure Rate (%)
• Repeat Defect Frequency (%)
• Average RCA Completion Time (days)

4. Process Compliance & SOP Adherence à Responsibilities

• Ensure operators follow SOPs, work instructions, inspection standards, and special process controls.
• Conduct daily checks to verify compliance in winding, brazing, insulation preparation, VPI cycle documentation, and assembly sequences.
• Identify gaps in operator practices and enforce corrective behaviour.

KPIs

• SOP Compliance Rate (%)
• Non‑Compliance Observations per Month
• Process Audit Closure Time

5. Defect Prevention & Quality Improvement Projects à Responsibilities

• Reduce recurring defects in coils, windings, VPI impregnation, assembly alignment, insulation failures, and testing deviations.
• Implement Poka‑Yoke (error proofing) on shopfloor.
• Support Lean/Kaizen projects focused on quality improvement.

KPIs

• Defect Reduction (%)
• Poka‑Yoke Implementations per Quarter
• Quality Improvement Projects Completed

6. Supplier‑Related Quality on Shopfloor à Responsibilities

• Identify supplier‑related issues during production (copper cracks, insulation tears, machining variations, PCB failures).
• Coordinate with SQE and incoming inspection for fast resolution.
• Segregate, tag, and control suspect material on shopfloor.

KPIs

• Supplier Defect Detections at Shopfloor (%)
• Supplier NCR Count
• Response Time to Incoming Quality Issues

7. Measurement System & Quality Tools Usage à Responsibilities

• Ensure correct usage of gauges, micrometres, torque tools, multimeters, PD testers, and electrical instruments.
• Identify broken/out‑of‑calibration tools and escalate immediately.
• Train operators and inspectors on measurement techniques.

• Measurement Error Incidents
• Tool Availability & Calibration Compliance (%)
• Inspection Accuracy (%)

8. Rework Control & Scrap Reduction à Responsibilities

• Track shopfloor rework activities and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat occurrences.
• Analyse scrap reasons in winding, lamination, machining, VPI, and assembly.
• Ensure proper approval before scrapping or reworking any material.

KPIs

• Rework Hours per Unit
• Scrap Rate (%)
• Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ %)

9. Quality Training & Competency Development à Responsibilities

• Train operators in defect identification, inspection techniques, torque standards, handling of coils and electronics.
• Develop skill‑certification programs for quality‑critical tasks.
• Conduct regular refresher training based on audit findings.

• Operator Quality Skill Certification Coverage (%)
• Training Hours per Employee
• Defects Due to Skill Gap (%)

10. Cross‑Functional Collaboration à Responsibilities

• Work with production, engineering, SCM, test bay, and maintenance teams to resolve quality concerns quickly.
• Participate in daily production meetings, highlight quality risks, and drive immediate countermeasures.
• Support engineering change implementation on shopfloor.
