We are seeking a qualified Chemist to support laboratory operations related to iron ore analysis and quality control activities. The role involves conducting accurate physical and chemical analyses of iron ore in line with established standards and procedures. Responsibilities include sample preparation, volumetric and gravimetric determination, data interpretation, and preparation of analytical reports. The Chemist will also supervise and guide stack sampling activities, ensuring proper collection, handling, and monitoring of iron ore samples. The position requires maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational procedures.
KeyResponsibilities:
1. Sampling & Testing
Conduct physical and chemical analysis of iron ore samples in accordance with approved laboratory standards and testing procedures.
Perform sample preparation, volumetric analysis, gravimetric determination, and related laboratory testing activities.
Supervise and guide stack sampling activities to ensure proper sample collection, handling, monitoring, and traceability.
Conduct sampling activities related to process monitoring, transportation, and shipment quality verification.
Ensure all sampling and testing activities are carried out in line with established laboratory protocols and industry standards.
Interpret analytical data and prepare accurate test reports and analytical summaries.
Support investigation of abnormal or inconsistent analytical results.
2. Laboratory Operations
Operate laboratory instruments and testing equipment safely and efficiently.
Ensure proper calibration, cleaning, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Monitor consumables, chemicals, reagents, and laboratory supplies and report replenishment requirements.
Maintain laboratory housekeeping, safety, and operational discipline.
3. Quality Control & Compliance
Follow established quality control procedures to ensure accuracy & repeatability of test results.
Verify analytical results and immediately report abnormalities or inconsistencies to the Manager – Laboratory.
Assist in comparison and validation of internal laboratory results with third-party laboratory results.
Ensure compliance with internal laboratory standards, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
4. Data Management& Reporting
Maintain accurate records of sampling, testing, calculations, and analytical reports.
Ensure proper documentation, traceability, and storage of laboratory data and samples.
Prepare test reports and analytical summaries in a timely manner.
Support preparation of reports required for operational, commercial, and management review
5. Coordination & Support
Coordinate with laboratory personnel, operations teams, and logistics teams during sampling and testing activities.
Support audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives within laboratory operations.
Provide technical support during quality investigations and troubleshooting exercises.
Requirements
Qualifications &Experience
Bachelor’s in Chemistry or M. Sc in Inorganic Chemistry.
7–10 years of relevant experience.
Experience in ore sampling, chemical analysis, and laboratory testing procedures preferred.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of chemical and physical testing methods for ores and minerals.
Familiarity with laboratory instruments, analytical techniques, and testing standards.
High attention to detail and accuracy in analysis and reporting.
Good understanding of laboratory safety and quality control practices.
Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
Ability to work in a disciplined and process-oriented environment.
