Job Objective:

Monitors and controls the safe and cost-efficient technical operation of all assigned vessels using the available resources, within the defined parameters of cost, commercial viability, and operational excellence in line with Owners expectations. Ensure environmental compliance policies are upheld.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assists in promoting and supporting BSM’s strategic goals
  • Understands the contractual agreements with customers to be able to deliver the same with regards to the ship management services for each assigned vessel, in a safe and cost-efficient manner.
  • Keeps close contact with clients, maintains good working relationships with client representatives who are involved in the operations of the companys vessels
  • Provides technical and operational support to assigned vessels
  • Monitors the effective operation of the equipment and machinery of the assigned vessels, identifying potential discrepancies from operational standards and proposes and/or implements solutions that will enhance the efficiency, performance and safety of the vessels.
  • Participates in the development of the maintenance and repairs plan for the assigned vessels and monitors its accurate execution
  • Arranges and executes Drydock activities at regular intervals
  • Develops, maintains, monitors and reports budgets for all assigned vessels
  • Monitors all vessels trading certificates to ensure compliance with existing maritime legislation, safety regulations and operational standard requirements of all regulatory bodies.
  • Manages all vessel visits, audits and inspections effectively right from planning to implementation and follow up with the aim of supporting and enhancing the operational efficiency of the assigned vessels.
  • Responsible for communication, promotion and implementation of companys health, safety, environment and quality policy on board the vessels related to technical.
  • In liaison with Loss Prevention, Safety and Quality (LPSQ) and Fleet Personnel Department (FPD), assists and supports sea staff with alignment of technical requirements.
  • Assists with the Company initiatives regarding the human element.
  • Ensures ship requisitions are handled timely and as per Quality Document Management System (QDMS) procedures.
  • Coach, engage, motivate, mentor employees to develop their strengths and build their capabilities as per their defined roles and personal goal.
  • Identifies training needs and provides on board training to ship staff during ship visits.
  • Active involvement in the continual improvement process of the Company Management System to maintain compliance with customer requirements, expectations as well as international / national regulations.

Requirements

Education and Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent, or
  • Chief Engineer’s qualification

Work Experience:

  • 3 years of sailing experience as Senior Officer, or
  • 3 years of shore experience as a technical superintendent with a ship management/owning company
  • Experience on LPG/VLGC vessels with ME Engine working experience

  • Strong knowledge of vessels’ technical requirements and voyage regulations
