Job Description

As an Assistant Professor of English, you will be joining a dynamic and diverse faculty team committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service. Your primary responsibility will include teaching undergraduate and possibly graduate courses in English language, literature, and composition. We are seeking an enthusiastic educator who can inspire students and foster a love for literature and critical thinking. You will be expected to engage in curriculum development, scholarly research, and departmental activities. Additionally, you should be committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment that caters to a diverse student body. This position will provide the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues, contribute to the growth of the department, and engage with the academic community at large.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and potentially graduate courses in English literature and language.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic progress and career opportunities.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Engage in scholarly research and publish findings in reputable academic journals.
  • Facilitate discussions and foster a positive learning environment in the classroom.
  • Assess and grade students’ assignments, exams, and other coursework in a timely manner.
  • Assist in organizing and participating in departmental events and activities.
  • Contribute to the development of new teaching materials and course content.
  • Regularly update course syllabi to reflect changes in the curriculum and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on research projects, grant applications, and presentations.
  • Engage with the broader academic community through conferences and professional networks.
  • Promote an inclusive and diverse learning environment that supports all students.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in English, Literature, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Proven experience in teaching at the college or university level with positive evaluations.
  • Demonstrated ability to publish scholarly research in academic journals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students and faculty.
  • Ability to develop and teach a diverse range of courses in English literature and language.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse academic environment for students and staff.
  • Experience with curriculum development and the use of innovative teaching methodologies.
